the best bang for my buck was the 9600GT 512mb 256bit; i can play Prototype in full settings, no lag. Can you beat that for PHP3,900.00? no way. hahaha!

I miss quoting specs.

Anyway, based on your post above, I think you got your eye on the 9800-series cards. For 17k, it's a bit of a stretch.

Here are two possible setups:

In the first one, I tried to use the new AM3 platform, and I got a nice all-solid caps motherboard. I overshot the budget though.
The second one is in the 17k area, but I chose the older AM2+, and a cheap board. The rest of the specs are equal.

The quotes lack optical drives, the case, and peripherals. All prices are from PCHub in Gilmore.

YM me if you wanna talk about it. :-)

Cash price?

Yeah. I haven't tried paying through card in PCHub. I doubt they have the facilities though.

Bro, the motherboard you chose won't work with the processor and the RAM. It's a different socket. The processor is AM3, and the RAM is DDR3. The motherboard in red is AM2+. AM2+ supports only DDR2, whereas AM3 supports DDR3.

The 9600GT is fine. If you want add 600 pesos though, you get a 9800GT. Just sayin'. It's a really nice upgrade for a few hundred bucks. :-D
Palit 9800GT for 4,540 pesos!

As for an LCD... any brand is fine with regards to gaming, because ghosting is a thing of the past. Of course, with your budget, you're limited to 16-inchers and TN panels.

This was the cheapest I could find.
Chimei 16" Wide LCD for 4,750 pesos.
Don't trust Chimei? Acer and Samsung will net you a few hundred more. Chimei is pretty reputable though, since they make panels for LG and Samsung.

Perfect. :-D Those will play recent games at high settings - and I'm sure you'll be able to play future games decently.

You could shave off a few hundred if you downgrade the motherboard to something cheaper (although I wouldn't), and you could also go for less HD space, kaso minus 200 lang yun.

Pwede rin! Kaso the cheapest mobo with SLI for AM3 (damn those AM3 mobos are hard to find) is an ECS (albeit a high-end one), and it costs 5.7k.
ECS A790GXM-AD3

Saw some SLI benchies though. Twin 9600GT's scale REALLY well. :-D

Oh bro pii_bulacan, that's another option for you to consider. Ain't it fun building rigs? :-D

Mobos aren't that big a factor when it comes to gaming naman. When you see motherboards compared head-to-head in gaming benchmarks, usually single-digit lang ang difference sa FPS (Frames per second). Of course, I'm factoring out the 15,000-peso enthusiast motherboards such as the Maximii, Rampages, Eclipses, etc.

Your mobo has an old chipset though. i945 was supposedly paired with Pentium D, four years ago. The limitation I can see is you won't be able to use new Penryn Core 2's (the old Core 2's will work fine though). It might be slower than motherboards with new chipsets, but again, the difference IN GAMES will be minute. You'll still enjoy lots of gaming horsepower if you buy a branded PSU and a 9800GT. :-D

tanung ko ulit

anu ba mas maganda for budget sa power supply
acbel 510/450w or acbel 560/510w?

kasi sabi nila yung acbel 560/510 wala na daw stock ng without led.... ang mahal naman kasi eh..... 3k+ yung with led... yung acbel 510/450w 2.2k mas mura...

It depends on what you need. Although the 560W is more expensive you won't need to buy a new power supply if your power requirements would exceed 450W.

If you bought it within the last few years, it's a 7200rpm drive.

If the data cable is ribbon-type, (flat and broad) it's IDE. If the cable is slim, it's SATA.

10,000rpm drives are uncommon, and so are SCSI ones. Your drive is 5400rpm only if it's really old. As for Green drives go, only the "Green editions" are "Green". (ex. Western Digital Caviar Green)

So there's a good chance your drive is  IDE 7200rpm or  SATA 7200rpm depending on the connector used.
