The best starter cymbals?

Second-hand, used mid or high level cymbals. Kaunting ipon na lang bro ok na yan. :) Madami dito sa classifieds. :)

+100  totally agree with this one... buying "brndnw" low  end cymbals is just a waste of your hard "saved" money... hehehe!! your really better off with used high-end cymbals... ung mga "entry level" cymbals na brndnw they look good but sound very bad and for beginner drummers nako sandali lang punit na yan mga yan... on the other hand used hind-end cymbals that may not look that good already... but still they sound way better than the brndnw low-end ones... mas matibay pa... in the long run pag nag improve ka, u may not even consider selling them kse they sound good already... i started playing with paiste alpha series cymbals that was during the 90's pa... up to now they're still my fav cymbals. tipid dba...yes i bought new ones but not bcoz i lost any of them...  :-D

Hi guys. Personally, I'm good with Stagg SH. Reasonably priced. Dunno if it will be affordable for the beginner.

Sabian B8 or Stagg SH for me. :)

Im not comfortable sa ZBT. hehe :)

Pero ang gamit ko sa church now eh yung Scimitar ng Zildjian. If im not mistaken faced-out na yun.
Still, maganda ang tunog niya. :)

IMHO, one of the best bargains for beginners are good condition second-hand A Zildjians. You can get them as low as 40% of brand new prices. If you take good care of them and don't abuse them, they may stay with you forever. I bought A's when I was starting in the 1970s, and they are still my main cymbals. Used Sabian AAs are similar to A Zildjians, but there are lots of fakes circulating now, so you have to be careful.

Istanbul Mehmet Traditionals are nice too. Brand new prices are just above used A's and AA's. Just be mapili though. They are supposedly hand hammered, so they may be inconsistent.

Finally, Stagg SH and Wuhan Traditionals are OK too, but they are VERY inconsistent and trashier than the above models. So be VERY mapili when buying.

You're most probably looking at the Istanbul's brother! As far as I remember, a Samatya set costs around your price range. pati ata yung Radiant kasya jan sa budget mo. great sounding cymbals for a wonderful price as well. :D

Ano maganda na brand set cymbals (hi-hat, crash, ride) na Php15k to 20k worth? Meron nga ba? TIA!

Meron. For example, dito sa Classifieds:

Used A Zildjian New Beats 14” = 8K
http://talk.philmusic.com/index.php?topic=309317.0

Istanbul Mehmet Trad Dark Crash 16” - P5.5k
http://talk.philmusic.com/index.php?topic=309311.0

A ZIldjian Medium Ride 20” = 6.5k
http://talk.philmusic.com/index.php?topic=309146.0

20K all in. All brand name b20 cymbals. Classic sizes and weights. Kung matatawaran mo pa ng kaunti (wag lang barat ha! Hehehehehe), bili ka ng cymbals case na Stagg worth P990.00.

Happy hunting.

Replied to your question in the help thread sir, hope it helps :)

to summarize, it's better to save up a little bit more and get the better models of the cymbals. :)

Best to try their suggested cymbals sa mga stores. Kung anong maganda sa pandinig mo, yun ang kunin mo. And don't rely on brands. Basta masarap pakinggan yung cymbals, then go get it. In the end, ikaw rin ang gagamit nun. Just a piece of advice bro. :-D

Nag-start ako sa Sabian B8  set. For me, it's way better than ZBT's.  :-D

Speaking of starter cymbals...I came upon Richard Poon performing live at Shangrila Mall (east wing) last Sunday...the lady playing drums were using PAISTE 101s...apart from admiring the lady for being damn good, the cymbals sounded decent...by the way they sounded you wouldn't know they're coming from 101s...

I know the sound mixing/engg may have something to do with how the cymbals sound, but still, these are brass cymbals...wala lang :)

Paiste Brass sounds better compared to PLANET Z and SABIAN SOLAR. there's something about 101s lang talaga.

pero, yeah, magaling din nag mimix most prob hahahaha!
