If you want to learn straight ahead jazz listen to Tal Farlow, Johnny Smith, Joe Pass, Kenny Burrel, Bireli Lagren, Pat Metheney and Wes Montgomery. Madami pa iba try mo hanapin yung album ni Mike Stern na STANDARDS one of my favorites...

It's also now bugging me that I don't remember who did the jazz version of Usahay.  That was a great rendition of the traditional song.

well....kung makakahanap ka dito sa pinas nung book na 100 years of Jazz Guitar (comes with 4 cds), ok yun...andun sila Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Jimi Hendrix (he plays a little bit of jazz too...), Carlos Santana, Mike Stern etc.

also, try listening to some horn lines (sax, trumpets etc.)..Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Tower of Power (medyo funk ito!), Chicago, Chuck Mangione... :wink:

There you go!  Menchu Apostol was the one I was thinking of.  He had lots of smooth lines and shapes to his solos.

I had the privilage of bieng in the same neiborhood with him. We used to jam in front of his house when I was a kid and he would just watch us play our butts off... Sayang talaga I didnt realize who he was until his death and years after when Colby Dela Calsada let me listen to one of thier old jazz recordings... Nag sisi ako bakit ba ako hindi nakapag paturo grrr... Rocker pa kc ako nun kainis!
