Title: TOOL... Anybody?

What do you think of this band? For me, I think they're AMAZING! A lot of chord progressions and irregular time signatures, can they be classified as progressive rock or just simply metal?
My fave albums are: 10,000 days Enema
Galing ni Adam Jones and Danny Carey! Maynard also provides great vocals!

magaling nga sila...mejo creeped out lang ako kay Maynard...pero ganun naman talaga ang signature style nya eh...being creepy...
dati magkatulong pa kami ng barkada ko sa Angono sa pag kapa ng mga chord progressions nila...ang sarap lalo na pag mahahabang songs nila ang kinakapa namin...

Love this band with their dark, creepy progressive metal sound. Oh... and of course... Danny Carey's god-like drumming skills.

Galing talaga nila! Sarap din i-jam ng tugtugan nila, yun nga lang mejo creepy nga yung ibang tracks ng albums nila.
Galing din ni Maynard gumawa ng lyrics, well, most of it.
Fave song ko ngayon eh forty-six & 2, sarap talaga pakinggan! Too bad walang BT nito sa for guitar :cry: :cry: :cry:
Nakaka-tawa yung itchura ni MJK dito, I think late 80's ata to kuha nung isa pa nyang band yung Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty (CAD), isa sa mga rare interviews ni MJK, kasi mailap ata sya talaga sa media.

Sinabi mo pa! Dahil sa kanya, eh gusto ko din matututong mag-drums!!! Ano pala tawag dun sa mga ginagamit nyang percussions, yung parang korteng octagon? Basta ang galing talaga nila! Si Adam Jones naman di sya shredder or lead guitarist pero ganda ng mga riffs galing din sa pag-experiment ng effects! Kinakapa ko ngayon yung intro ng "Vicarious" ganda ng blending ng guitar and bass!
... Si MJK naman eh... WEIRD, pero ganda ng boses... I find him creepy pero nakaka-intriga talaga sya!
Sayang Sir Daemonite ang layo mo, sarap kasi sana i-jam ng mga kanta nila!

hehehe, i play schism pero single ped version hehehe. still completing it kasi la me double peds, i'm finding a way para magtunog authentic sya kahit na single peds lang ako. i also do APC kung san vox rin si maynard... sige jam tayo minsan pag lumuwas ako ng manila....

Ang weird ng time signatures nila, sino ba nagdidictate ng timing nun? Yung drummer? Ang weird talaga ng time signatures nila, gusto ko din matuto nun!
Song interpretations ko:
forty-six & 2 (fave song ko, next to vicarious, jambi & stinkfist)- This is one of Tool's most amazing songs, and really sums up the entire theme of Aenima. This song is about growing, changing, and moving towards the next level of human evolution and conciousness. It's deeply rooted in Jungian theory.
Basically, it's believed that there are three levels of human evolution and each has it's form of conciousness. There's the 1st level with 44 chromosones. These are primitve people's like the aboriginies in Australia who do not percieve anything outside of themselves. They only see one large conciousness with no distinguishment between organisms. Then there's the second level with 46 chromosones. That is us. We are a chaotic disharmonic conciousness that is basically used as a stepping stone between the first and third levels. The third level is 48 chromosones. (Or 46 & 2, with 2 being the sex chromosones x & y). This is the higher level of conciousness. Our destination.
But this is where the Jungian theory comes in. It is believed that you can not reach this third level of evolution without first delving into yourself and basically cleansing your conciousness for the next jump. That's where the Shadow comes in. The shadow is basically everything about that is unseen that you are uncomfortable with or hate. This is also known as the Anima (hence the name of the CD).
The last part of the song sums all of this up...
"See my shadow changing, Stretching up and over me Soften this old armor Hoping I can clear the way By stepping through my shadow, Coming out the other side Step into the shadow Forty six and two are just ahead of me"
vicarious - This is more down to earth than usual from Maynard. It hits hard because it is not about hidden meanings. At first, the lack of mystery is almost disappointing for a die-hard. But the song itself is devastating and true tool. The meaning, as I see it: we consume information about the world's tragedies like vultures because, in part, it satisfies a need of ours. Why can't we just admit it? Because this vicariousness is horribly shameful. So we (la, la, la) lie about it. Maynard tells us to accept the truth, though, he really doesn't need or want to 'say it all again'. This is a song about a human need that Maynard thinks is timeless ('so it is, so it's always been'): living vicariously off other people's tragedy. He does not hope for change, he demands recognition of this ailment. Because maybe we really should be ashamed.

13 years old ako nung una ko nakinig ng TOOL,sobrang nakakaadik music nila,simula nun wala na ko masyadong pinakinggan hanggang matapos highschool days ko.
halos parang form na ng meditation pakikinig ko sa kanila...ngayon lumihis na trip ko sa music pero di ko na maalis yang TOOL sa katawan ko...haha :-D

i love them...i've seen tool 3 times - one time each for the Aenema, Lateralus and 10,000 days tours. I've also seen A Perfect Circle a couple of times and they are equally as good but with a different feel. I saw APC when they first came out and it was great to see Maynard do something different with another band with his vocal style.

listen to Gothacoustic Ensemble they have an acoustic album tribute to Tool. ok din pagkagawa. sarap din pakinggan. parang ibang vibe. :mrgreen:

your friend is right bro! unlike any other heavy or metal bands, their music is different. they're music would make u feel good, which is weird for a heavy band. i remember listening to one of their live songs, maynard asked the crowd to just sit down & feel the music & the lyrics go through them, the crowd was really silent during that part, only a few people talking.
i love listening to their albums from the first song down to the last sitting & just letting the music soothe me. try it out! that's the best way to feel & experience TOOL's music.

i searched the web to get an answer about where he's getting his dirt sound. found out that it's his tube amps' distortions, probably from his diezels & marshall... he runs 3 heads & cabs all at the same time.

Napanood ko sa youtube yung short interview kay Adam Jones, sabi nya pag tinatanong daw sya about kung anong year nung Gibson nya sinasagot nya '94, ano ba ibigsabihin nun?
Ahh, pero parang ang dating kasi eh may "something" dun sa year na yun na pag-sinabi mo daw sa mga tao eh parang, iisipin nila na fake yung Gibson mo.
Kasi parang asar na ata sya mga nagtatanong sa kanya about sa guitars eh. Kaya yun ang sinasagot nya.

fascinated ata si danny carey sa mga ethnic symbols tsaka geometric designs.
credit-worthy rin yung boses ni keenan. kahit malakas o mahina maski pa-growl very modulated pa rin. napaka unique tipong alam mo na siya talaga yung kumakanta. arguably one of the best rock vocalist ever.
medyo OT: nung una kong narinig yung APC parang familiar yung boses di ko lang malink kay keenan agad kasi hindi kabigatan yung kanta nya (at least sa isang kanta dun sa mer de noms na album) tapos sa 13th step ko na lang nalaman na siya nga yun.

Ableton Live yung software.. nde ko lang alam pare.. mejo wla akong alam pagdating sa ganyan eh.. yung gitarista namen ang magaling sa mga ganyan..sa mga techy stuff.. hehehe.. maganda yung software pare although napaka complicated nya gamitin unlike powertools, fruityloops, etc... pang live tlga sya.. kaya kme nag ttrigger finger.. kc mahirap kung sa keyboard ng laptop eh..

Sorry to inform you bro but you might find it hard to replicate Adam's sound. Here's why?: He's using 2 Diezel VH4 4 channel heads w/ Mesa/Boogie 4X12 Rectifier cabs & a Marshall bass head w/ Marshall cab. They're all running at the same time & he uses the amps' tube distortion.

Yeah I know. But maybe there's a solution. A fellow Tool fan suggested that I check-out Guitar Rig, meron daw dun mga pre-sets na kayang i-emulate ang sound ng sound ni Mr. Jones (well, not exactly pero ok na din). Kaya I'm to figure out how to use it. I already installed it on my laptop.

well again, out of the topic may seem, but there are drummers from the jazz and metal genre who can still be able to grasp the theories being used on how danny carey approaches his style.well if your talking about rarity of this drummers, then it must be like finding a needle in a hay stack.haha..i cant even find myself one to create my forgotten masterpiece..haha

Yeah, their albums are pretty rare. I did see 3 of their original albums before @ Odyssey somewhere in Alabang though. Too bad I don't have funds back then. We're lucky enough to have family members & close friends who bought us original copies of Lateralus & 10,000 days though. The album packaging's really unique & creative. I'm not gonna sell those ever haha!

But I understand that there are two types of TOOL fans...MJK fan boys/girls and TOOL fans...either way most of these people are elitist pricks....there's enough proof in youtube and TOOL's official chat channel.
i read a post that states Maynard = TOOL...but IMHO i believe DC's drums is what creates most of the TOOL sound...his drumming sticks out the most.

I believe TOOL wouldn't be who they are if it ain't for the band themselves not just Danny. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Danny, though, I don't play drums, I try to apply his principle through guitar. If you're referring to the technical & creative aspect, Danny isn't just the one who goes against the norm, the other 3 plays against themselves as well... musically. :-D Danny's playing is just so obvious 'cuz only a number of drummers could play off the beat & against the other members, & he's one of them.

ika nga ni MJK eh, if you focus on one aspect of a song whether it may be the lyrics, guitars, bass or drums, then you're focusing only about 1/4 of the project. :wink:

been listening to TOOL for 4 yrs now...its laced on my bones. I have nothing much to say about TOOL. But I understand that there are two types of TOOL fans...MJK fan boys/girls and TOOL fans...either way most of these people are elitist pricks....there's enough proof in youtube and TOOL's official chat channel.

TOOL is TOOL collectively. not because of Danny.. It's coz of MJK, Justin Chancellor, Danny Carrey and Adam Jones. Listen to Pigmy Love Circus (a side project of DC) and you would not hear a single TOOL sound from it. You would hear DC's sound but not TOOL's.

Mga Sirs..Nag pproject po kame ngayon ng Tool and unfortunately the suppose to be drummer for our project begged off because of his main band's tour. we would start na sana. kumpleto na po kung may drummer. you might know someone within metro manila who can and want to play covers from TOOL like sober, prison sex, bottom, forty six & 2. pakisabi naman po na may naghahanap. yung walang ere po ha. ahehehe! thanks much!!!

had a drinking session one time with some of mine which were really into TOOL, the whole night they explained to me various nosebleed stuff like sacred geometry, theoretical physics, sacred mushrooms, parallel universes, string theories and stuff. Most of all they explained various songs of TOOL to me :-D :-D actually the song lateralus also depicts what happens to you when youre in LSD :-D :-D

I started listening to Tool because of this Deftones song, "Passenger"
Chino and Maynard's voice is so powerful when combined. Grabe intensity ng song na to for me. After hearing that song, lalo akong naging interested sa songs ng Tool. At since then, hindi na Deftones lang ang pinapakinggan ko. Hehe.

First TOOL song I completed on bass was 46&2, then H, then schism, then parts parts na lang yung ibang kanta nila... Ang hirap mabuo, lalo na kung and drummer ay so so lang o ayaw ng TOOL... Mabuo man yung guitar, drum and bass parts, napakahirap pa kunin ang boses at style ni MJK. I wish they would come here.
Dahil nag-iipon, I promised my wife that I will not watch any more concerts, except for TOOL, front row, VIP, kahit 20K pa ticket!
