SG users --  How would you describe the tone of your SG (especially the Epi ones)?  Mine has stock pus and I like them better as is than when I tried to "upgrade" them. I think Epi put really good Gibson-spec pus in these gtrs.

Here is my Epi SG in action w/ Firebottle last weekend...  Comments naman pls.

i added another clip to my soundclick. this time clean naman.

its led zeppelin's stairway to heaven. now im going to warn you guys that i pretty much suck. and when i recorded that clip, it was freezing in my cousins studio so my hands were all shaky and screwy. so the solo is a bit messed up ahahaha.

i have no vibrato.

but hey, this thread is about guitars, not playing so i mustered the courage to upload that crap

enjoy (the sg. not my playing.)

You should tell us what your gtr and amp settings.  My first impression is medyo muddy yung sound, but can't tell exactly why.  You need to cut some mids and increase the highs.

with my g400 faded ...i bought it because of aesthetic reasons.  i told someone to buy it for me.. actually its the epi sg vs epi dot es335 ..buti na lang sg na pili ko..next time na yung dot..

As of today, I've picked up this very same model.  I got to the guitar store about an hour before closing time.  I asked the attendant if I could try the guitar out in their back-room.  I decided on running the thing through it's paces through a 30-watt transistor amp...the cheapest one at that.  My reason behind it is that if I could coax a good tone out of it from a cheap amp, I know that with a little bit of tweaking, I can get a better tone out of a more expensive amp (perhaps like the B-52 AT-112 I've been keeping my eye on at Guitar Center).  I ended up doing lead runs and some Mick Ronson rhythms on it before finally picking it up.  I'm very partial to really bright tones right now and it looks like this Faded G-400 is just the right thing to get.  I plan on having it adjusted by a luthier to get it ready for heavier strings (thinking 11's or 12's!!!) and it's tuning to either C or C#.

I'm glad I had a pair of clip-loks hanging about in my dresser.  I've now fitted the bad boy with sky-blue colored ones.

I'm going to like this when it becomes my main riff machine!

For Epis, either MIK or MIC, the first parts that must be replaced, in my experience as owner of 5 different Epi models well as the experience of Epiforum members are 1) pup switch; 2) volume and tone pots.  These parts are available at Audiophile.  Get the Switchcraft ones or the AllParts switches.  Both are good with the Switchcraft being better.  For pots, AllParts are okay.  500k, either linear or audio taper, I believe linear for tone and audio taper for volume.

FWIW

guitars: gretsch 6122-1962; rickenbacker 330; epi elite casinos; gibson les paul standards, tribute, faded, double cut; gibson sg standards, faded; fender strats MIAs, MIJs, MIMs; fender tele MIAs, MIJs, MIMs; etc

Thanks!  I guess time will tell when those switches go to pot (so to speak), since I only got it a few hours ago

Thanks for the advice, MP. I've always looked up to your sage-like wisdom since the old philmusic mailing list back in the 90's.  I may have to get those things looked at by the luthier when I get my free set-up done.

i updated my sounclick ACDC baby
@Paengkee: 'pre do you have the vocals for the ACDC track? I would like to record a track with my SG when my Bareknuckle Mississippi Queen P-90s come in. There aren't very many tracks out there with the BK MQ pups so I would like to share.
