Defective Hard Disks --- Bakit binibili?
« on: August 24, 2007, 07:45:41 PM »
curious ako.  someone offered to buy my dad's deffective disks for 800 a piece.    ang pagkaka-alam ko once sira na ang hd hindi na ito marerepair... mali ba?  what do people need from old drives?

incidentally, meron akong mejo malfunctioning HD and i need to have the data extracted.  may marerecommend ba kayo na mag-eextract ng data? magkano kaya to aabutin? thanks!

Seagate has an extended warranty of something like 5 years for their hard disks. Not a lot of people know that. The buyers search Seagate's database if the defective disks are covered by warranty and send the disks back to Seagate for repair/replacement. They often sell them back at a profit.

You can send the disks to Seagate Singapore for RMA (as long as you check their warranty) or you can go to Fritz Logistics along Pascor Drive Ext. (near the Domestic Airport I think) in P'que.

I think jepoy knows some data recovery guys, but if your disk is doing the click of death, might as well send it to Seagate. Don't know about other brand disks, though (Maxtor is owned by Seagate so that is covered by their warranty).

i'm not just sure, but i think it will cost you on the shipping if you send it to seagate...  if you return it to the store dealer, of course they just offered you the 1 year warranty so you'll end needing to contact the supplier (which doesn't accept items from end-users because only their dealers can return the items to them)...

to cut it short... i think those guys that buy defective hard drives have an "insider" from dealers/supplier... they send these hard drives in bulks...

i was able to do it once (but with a motherboard instead), store/dealer warranty is lapsed (1 year warranty unless you're a company where warranties can be arranged, but supplier warranty to dealer is longer (3 years?)...

Ayun! Thanks for the correction. I knew it was near an airport. Forgot the casino was near NAIA.

@briant - I hope this dispels any doubts.

So pano nila malalaman kung defective yun HD mo?

I actually had two hard disks replaced -- both from Seagate. I spent around 300 bucks for shipping it to Paranaque (who then sent it to Singapore). I think within a week, they sent me the replacement hard disks.

Take note that the replacement are not brand new -- they are merely refurbished. But so far, it works quite well. It's just month #2, so let's see.

basta dont expect a new hdd pag nag send ka sa depot ng manufacturer...laging refurbished ang binibigay nila lalo na pag di na marerepair ang damage sa hdd...swerte na yung nakaka recieve ng doubled hdd size kagaya ni Cool2ny dahil usually like for like ang replacement nila...
