Edwards 335/LP or Epiphone Elitist 335/lp
« on: December 07, 2007, 02:00:09 AM »
....the only Japanese guitar I have is the Ibanez....would like to get another one. I narrowed it down to these brands.

I see the the Edwards and Epi Elitist have reasonable prices..... I'm interested in the ES335s and LPs lines only.

Which one is better?

Awesome, awesome guitar, meng.

Phil, is it easy to source Edwards 335s in the states?  Yung Epi 335s I think any decent music store would carry them.  People I know here on the canadian east coast who owned an Edwards axe (kahit hindi 335) at one time or another had to source theirs from a japanese exporter.  But I would concur with Bart - those eddies are works of art, both aurally and visually.

Phil,
So far I've played a couple of Epi Elitist, a Casino and a ES-335, and liked both of them.  Guitar quality is really good.  You can't go wrong with them.

The Japanese Tokais are good too.  I have an older ES-120 that sounds wonderfull and would recommend Tokais to anyone who is looking for an ES-335 style guitar.  If your interested, stop by the house and give it a try.  Bring your Gibson and see how it compares.  I'll send you a PM with my cell phone number.

i have a friend who swears by the Edwards.. tried it played it and compared it.. and all i can say is... i liked Gibson for their craftmanship and sound, i was blown away when i tried the Edwards.. and as Mahavishnu pointed out, if money is  not too much of an issue, Navigators are the $#!T!!

all IMO.

try translating it first through translate.google.com by keying the navigator link . crappy translation though, but you'll get the gist. i dont think theyve archtop, but theyve LPs

or

just click here

The same material, and no. Trees have the personality. However, selecting the appropriate material to use Navigator has allowed it to be.  It's Craftsman悦BI also. Conversely it is best if the choice is not created by it, but Fingertip remembered.  Machine feel not know.  The data leave the matter not only of the swellings,窪MI can explore is limited only craftsman.
Paint, of course nitrocellulose lacquer is used.  The result of the study, the painting itself was no secret.  Hidden was the skilful was.

haha, the translation is very.. enigmatic!

I DON'T like Edwards LPs for 1 reason: VENEER flame top.

Go Epi!

Hmmm.. is this true? My gold top has a half inch maple top that peaks through the binding. I assumed that the flame top was real flame maple.

Phil, you can order at Ishibashi through their foreign department. Email: web-shop@ishibashi.co.jp
They'll be more than helpful with your questions. US based guys use this route. You'll probably get your order faster than you'll get domestically ordered Epiphone.

LP wise, both have veneer flame tops. BTW the 335 is DESIGNED to have a veneer top. Even gibson custom shop.

Phil > if your interested in  335's why dont you look at the gibson es339? I think its a killer value at about 1600-1800 street price.  Basically the guitars are from the gibson custom shop and are mini 335's. Ive seen a few reviews and people are going bananas over the. I figure an elitist 335 is about 1100? so the additional 500 bucks will get you to gibson custom shop. Its really worth a look.

as for the lp debate... i hear better things about edwards than with epi although the new slash LP (epi) looks really good.. specially since it has a long tennon and comes with SD alnico pro 2's.

.. played it....don't really like the tones...I was plugged into a Fender tube amp (I think the 65 Deluxe).... don't like it. I sounded too thin for an archtop. Playability and size is nice but the sound....not my cup of tea. I would prefer the regular size archtops though. thanks.

it's solid maple top with a veneer curly maple (over that maple) for aesthetics, i.e. not solid curly maple.
