not necessarily a bad thing but like everyone with a BA knows, not all businesses are profitable and results in mountains of wealth and there lies the challenge of making it profitable.

i see the posts locally sa Manila and the surrounding places and there are frequently workshops being held to take advantage of...go to em. whatever is being taught by whoever is teaching the seminar, go see what they have to say. music production is an ongoing learning experience so you should be a sponge and be voracious student. i've been to quite a few over the years -free and paid -and it is always a good learning experience. Sweetwater is one of the bigger places were they get bigger names to drop by and do seminars but then there are also product companies like Ableton, Digidesign and Native Instruments which have a pretty good rep department and constantly have seminars. I haven't been to winter music conference the last few years but that gathering is always awesome for gearheads because even though it is primarily a dance festival, lots of gear people who show up at NAMM, show up at WMC too and do workshops.

i know for one thing that there are quite a few respected studio professionals in Manila that I'd love to hear talk and pass on some tips in a workshop. if i do get a chance to visit in the future, i'll make sure to attend some if they have em.

Tsk tsk tsk....

"When You're not a sound engineer, what should you call yourself?"

---the same question haunted me for a while... I got a shot at recording some music stuff and VO's... .

...even a chorale album... and I got credited as a recording engineer.

I was both happy and really annoyed  because I'm not formally trained on the craft (accounting swak talaga sakin) of recording...
It just happened that these people bought some stuff from me, found out that there is no one to run the gear and asked me to be the guy to run their newly-bought gear...

I wrote a paper for a class a couple of years ago along these lines. Here are a couple of excerpts from the paper.

a title becomes of a man if that's what he practices...
of course in the old days mas applicable yun
but these apply only to mainstream 'livelihood', for regulation purposes.

the arts is very dynamic... and no amount of degree can replace experience.

i wouldn't worry about titles if you ask me...
let the people decide... such kind of work is something that is not gauged by how much you've studied
in the classroom... but rather, the kind of work that you've put out.

"music entrepreneur" kaya?
