EMU Caps issue
« on: April 13, 2011, 05:33:28 PM »
To all EMU users, especially those using the 1010 pci,

This unit is aged now so I am sure all the 1820ms are kinda olds now. My question is this, have any of you guys experienced the caps issue? Having the a problem on your unit where you get that erratic spikes. Then you cant get to run any of your settings higher than 48. This is caused by defective capacitors in the DC converters of your 1010pci (correct me if I am wrong, this is how I understood what I have researched over the net - im not an ECE). Have any of you guys replaced leaky capacitors from your EMU units?

Just hoping this will save other EMU users who thought have the problem means trashing the unit. I believe all of you EMU 1820m users are satisfied with your units that you really cant let it go and will really find means to make it work again.

No. And it was at the corner of Calamba St. The old PIMP studio is no more and Jobet continued the biz with his own Doghouse studio, which I think is in the doghouse for now.

We moved out of Talayan about a year before Ondoy and I've been using my Emu only at home since we moved.

Nice... hindi pa din tayo na off topic. Still on the EMU. lolz.

Have you evet maximized the full potential of your 1820m?
Im trying to connect an alesis adat to it to give me 8 more analog inputs plus the spdif just to test its full inputs. I know rey tried it with his Alesis hd adat and it works. Now the next step is to make all 20 outputs work simultaneously. hehehehe.

Well, it once co-habited with an office RME 9652 card connected via fiber, but I've never fully utilized the digital I/O. Analog is easy to fill up though.  :-D

think my 1820m finally kicked the bucket!  maybe i should have the caps repaired when i find time.  or better yet, move the firewire 410 from the macbook pro to my pc.  and finally get that apogee duet... \m/

the audio spikes were so loud that i thought it might've fried my krk v6's.  buti na lang di pa...  any amount of judicious restarts and restore defaults won't even bring it back to life.  as a temp fix, i just hook up my pc to the firewire 410 on the mac thru toslink, just so i can monitor.

any ideas where i can get the caps repairwork done?  thanks!

I order some caps on ebay from hk. There are only two which has to be replaced and the min order is 10pcs. I can give you a couple of them. As to soldering them to your audiodock, you have to do it yourself or ask any qualified tv repairman or electronic pro.

I recall when the spikes became strong, I unplugged my audiodock and used the 1010 settings instead. I can monitor via digital out on a coaxial cable plugged to the 1010. This is just for working on a mix since you wont have that input features of the audiodock. But you can still plug in an ADAT to your 1010 and have 8 inputs. the behringer ADA8000 works with it.
