Title: Question related to Volume Swells
Post by: Kusanagi on November 23, 2014, 10:47:06 PM
Hello po. Since I have already bought a new guitar, gusto ko na po ulit mag-focus into investing for pedals. Next in my GAS list is a reverb and a volume pedal and it's because to fulfill my dreams of doing ambient swells in our worship music, kaso problemado po ako sa amp ko since it has a low headroom (and solid state FWIW) and we don't mic our amps in church. I think I will just end up doing muddy noise using my current amp if I try to do swells.

Should I save up first for a decent amp or OK lang na ituloy ko yung pag-iipon ko for verb and VP because the amp won't matter much and most of my volume swell tone will depend on how I set my pedals?

On another note, can you share how you do volume swells? Also what pedals you use and their settings, which of them are on when "swelling", etc. Please school me so other newbies can be informed as well.  :)

Thanks.

I can relate!

I used this as reference :

Anong amp mo? Yung effectivity naman ng isang player di lang sa amp nakabase ( space, acoustics, crowd kung puno yung place ) theres alot of things to consider. Pero tama yan, invest first on a descent amp.

Yup I think yung clarity kasi ng tone mo nasa amp talaga, so when you purchased a good guitar, then get a decent amp. Regarding naman sa mga ambient stuff, delay and reverb is a must. But for me mas ok na kumuha ng Delay muna kesa reverb and Volume Pedal. For the meantime pwede mo naman gamitin muna Guitar volume mo for swelling. Get a Delay pedal na may tap tempo and different modes, mas versatile mas ok. Then kapag ok na yun you can go for Volume pedal then Reverb. :) Swak sa budget yung RV-5 or Hall of Fame.  :-D

Tatlo lang din gamit ko ngayong pedals, I have 2 ODs on my board and a delay. Yup tiyagaan nga lang, I tried doing swells with my DD3 and volume knob. I setup my DD3 to about 2 o'clock sa feedback, about 2 din sa delay time then 10 lang sa level. I somehow managed to create ambient swells kaso chambahan lang sakin kasi kailangan accurate yung pagpihit sa volume knob ng guitar (I used my strat copy that time). I didn't continue doing that playing style kasi di ako natutuwa sa nagagawa kong sounds , saka nakakangawit sa picking hand, iba pa rin siguro talaga pag may volume ped.

I'm using a Peavey Rage 258 SS amp. Thanks sir for the tip. But ang mindset ko po ngayon is kumpletohin ko na lang muna yung board ko since mahirap po maka-ipon ng pang GAS, I'm still a student pa lang po kasi. Though I'm not in a rush naman po so I will still consider the possibility of buying a better amp instead.

Anyway, napa-isip lang po kasi ako dahil din sa tip niyo. Mas mararamdaman po ba yung ambient sounds from volume swells if you run your amps in stereo? Will it be a waste of effort to do swells in mono, unmiced?

Thanks for the advice po. I'm also thinking about getting a Zoom CDR? Will you recommend it? Naisip ko po kasi makakasulit ako kasi reverbs, delay and other mods andun na, plus pwede pa ko mag save ng patches storing my desired "pedal chain".

OK po thanks for the suggestions! I'm gonna check those pedals out :-D

okay ang CDR for reverb. for delay, i suggest you get a dedicated delay pedal. the CDR's reverb are convincing nanaman. i was choosing between the CDR and HoF. i went for the CDR nalang. mas maraming uses.

pede mo gamitin yung volume knob ng guitar mo to swell ang gamit ko sa swelling is

guitar>>volumepedal or gamit mo Vknob>>compressor>>amp>>amp fx loop sen>>delay chorus modulation  reverb>> fx loop return
