Title: Oh My Gas!!! Photography GAS (Thread of the nikon d7100, d700 and d800)
Post by: guitarbrat on July 12, 2013, 06:55:10 AM
What she did?. So last week she brought home this nikon D7100. Its a good bundle deal from costco. with wifi adaptor, nikon bag, and a very versatile 18-200 zoom lens. She win... now i'm hooked in it again. Going out everyday with wifey and son to take pics and to love nature again :).  I love this camera that she got me.
The problem now is... I am facing another form of GAS. GAS on lenses   :money: :nosebleed:

I too got hooked with this a few years back..bought a few lenses, just the affordable ones...I wanted to get the nicer ones but something just kept me from buying...parang for a 1,000 plus dollar lens, mas gugustuhin ko nalang magbuy ng guitar or gear..hehehe...now, I just use a small point and shoot..for everyday shutterbugging..and now I just discovered snapseed so baka magshift nalang ako to shooting daily interesting things using my phone cam..haha most of my gear, just gave it to my dad..looking back, If I had gotten those really kickass lenses..wala din namang difference..

I suggest, you enjoy what you have first before buying any new lens.

My suggestion pre get a 20mm f2.8 na second hand and weld it to that D7100 of yours THEN zoom with your feet. That 20mm would turn out around close to 30mm focal length.

Peace out.

Could not justify a D800 purchase coz as much as I want to I could not find time to go out and do a solidly planned photowalk

Also too many issues surrounding the D800, focus issues, bloated mega pixels, computer upgrades, tripod tethered needed for maximum performance etc.

Congrats on having the guts pulling the trigger and enjoy your new gear.

Nah... believe me sir. The d800/e are the best cameras in the market (excluding medium format cameras eg. hasselblad). Had tried d4 too but the d800 is much better.

If there's a d4x its definitely gonna be expensive but at the moment no plans yet for  upgrade but one thing is for sure i do know which body i will upgrade. For now i prioritize my pano set up :-) and still enjoying my d700 :-) its just performs the way i want it :-)

May update na pala ulit regarding upcoming d4x. It has 54.6 mp. (overkill) 16bit (mind blowing dynamic range) and yeah its a bit expensive. $8k. I'll probably just buy a killer telephoto prime for my bday. :)

Sinabi mo sir... Canon and nikon has new patents on medium format cameras na rin. Sana hindi pa mamamatay ang dslr. baka after 10 years parang vhs player na din. Sayang ang pera.

hmmm, I read something about this issue somwhere..about the DSLR format being obsolete dahil sa latest medium format product trends nga..interesting..

Exactly lets talk lenses. Nikon 200mm f2 vrII...the big bertha is seducing me now that ive tasted full frame. Problem with dynamic range these days is its so good off cam its starting to look too processed.

The big bertha is excellent in portraits but I already have the nikon 85mm 1.8g and 70-200 f/2.8 vrii . I'm leaning more on the 300mm f/2.8 for the additional reach sir pallas. Mas gusto ko pa sana 400mm f/2.8 but its to pricey. Ok na siguro 300mm bili na lang teleconverter for more reach. Good for taking photographs of surfers and wildlife.
