Hi Bro.
beginner here playing alto sax. I usually play long notes(from the bottom all the way up and vice versa) around 10 minutes. Major scales 15 minutes and 20 or more minutes for play along jam with the casette. I usually play everyday before but now reduced it to thrice a week.
Try these, I find it very encouraging: Play along with "The Girl from Ipanema" (Stan Getz) (Alto F#), even if your only a beginner. You can use this simple set of notes(melodic minor scale) F#-G#-A-B-C#-Eb-F
You can also use other notes like E-G-Bb-C.
As you play along combine and group these notes according to your preferences. You can even create your own solo on the piano section of the song
.
Notes usually start at B going down and up. Use C# on the bridge of the song going up and down. Increase the volume of the casette to balance it with your volume, in a closed room of course. Record it with your cellphone if you have one and listen.
take it one step at a time...experiment and have fun.
Hope that helps. God bless!
