tumigil ako sa pagtatambol noon dahil naisip ko "i will never be an excellent drummer if i don't practice my rudiments." sadly, i found them boring.  PERO kung gusto mo maging super-drummer with special magical mystical powers, kailangan mo sila matutunan.

haven't checked gep's post yet (i promise to be good this time, aaralin ko na) but in addition to the paradiddle eto yung mga naaalala ko (salamat B. Go):

single strokes - LRLR, RLRL
double strokes - LLRR, RRLL
accented triplets - LRLRLR AND VICE VERSA
isa pang klase ng triplets na di ko alam ang official name - LLR, RRL
isa pang triplets - LLL, RRR  useful yan sa samba :)
flam - LR and viceversa the two notes are executed very close to eachother, halos magkadikit.

there are also several ways of executing these rudiments:

the throw pull technique and wrist action.

NEVER get addicted to the throw pull technique before developing your wrists.  the throw pull technique is great for ghost notes on the snare (and hats) but won't get u very far with toms.  kailangan sa toms mas malakas, use your wrists.

hope this helps.

I believe every rudiment has its significance.

But just like what Master Mar taught me and most of his students, rudiments are essentially build out of three elements...  single strokes, double strokes, and flams.

breast stroke...

hehehe..

but seriously, i think double strokes are important.
madali lang mag-single strokes eh yun ang unang natututunan pag nagsisimula magdrums. pero once you've mastered double strokes, a whole world of new ideas will come rushing at you so fast you won't know what to explore first!
hehehehe..

probably the single strokes because it is the most commonly used rudiment.

then doubles, then flam, then buzz roll.

its helpful to learn paradidles, 5, 7, 9...aralin na lahat.  :-D

Yup, malaking pagbabago ang nangyari simula nung napanood ko yun. Malaking improvement sa rudiments and a new insight on drumming. I'm still figuring out kung pano translate sa brush though hehe....

OT...

Need to brush up your brush technique?  Hehe...  Go to the great brush master Clayton Cameron's website --- http://www.claytoncameron.com/ .  Check out the videos of his brush rudiments.

Here's another helpful brush link --- http://www.musiciansarchive.com/articles/drums/techniques/drums_techniques_brushes.htm .

Para sakin, double strokes din, kasi pinapakawalan niya ang kamay mo para maasikaso ang ibang bahagi ng drums. Parang the next level to.

I use paradiddles most of the time, iba-ibang accent at version nga lang. Bale kasi combination sya ng single at double stroke, tapos flam paradiddle at buzz rolls.

hmmm..nice question manson...how do i practice a certain rudiment..

if you are an office working drummer..try to practice it during your breaktime, idle time or whnever your boss is not around..hahaha..thats why i always have my practice pad with me..of course practice it with a metronome..drums is instinct and you can feel it yourself if you can speed it up...

start with the right hand then sometimes start with the left hand to make it equal and balance..if you are comfortable already then try to aplly it on the drumset..man whenever i watch wwe or nba i alwys have a drumsticks with me a play rudiments while watching..hahaha..cheers manson...dont forget to teach me those jazz lessons you took..hehehe

its good to know all rudiments by heart. set the metronome at a comfortable speed then play. tapos try to set it at a tempo below that. better yet, try sa different markings ng metro. and don't play until your hands are sore. :-D sakit un. stop at the first signs of tension, go back sa metro and start again. maganda rin to play along sa mga music tracks, or sing while playing.  :-D

I always start playing very slowly, then gradually increase the speed, and go back slowly again, or play single strokes that sounds like paradiddles, and paradiddles with different accents.
So Be It.
