« on: May 24, 2010, 04:42:46 PM »

Sorry for noob question.

Thanks in advance.

Watch this:

Basically you need stacked overdrive pedals (don't set the gain too high on both pedals; low-mid gain lang), delay, and a bit of reverb.

By the way I'm using Laney Cub10 amps. Yun lang kinaya ng budget ko.  :-(

For my pedals, Boss SD-1 and Zoom G2.1u lang meron ako.  :-(

hays... :-(

a good, thick sounding overdrive pedal + a dab of delay

if you're using a strat, switch to position 4 (bridge + mid pickup), roll down the mid pickup's tone pot a bit (around halfway).

poor man's Eric Johnson Setup for bedroom use:

AMPS:

Clean:  get a Fender Princeton Reverb (Silverface can do)
Overdrive:  Get an old Laney AOR 30 combo or head with a 2x12 cab with Celestion Greenbacks

GUITARS:

Get a low-output Strat-style guitar with alnico pickups.

EFFECTS:

A/B switcher for clean and lead.
If you cannot afford a Fuzz Face, look for the Jimi Hendrix CLASSIC FUZZ.  A real cheaper version would be a DOD Classic Fuzz (incidentally the same name).
Get a Tube Screamer clone.
You need a good chorus pedal.
Ibanez DE-7 Delay Echo would be a good alternative to the Echoplex delay unit EJ uses.

In the current issue of Premier Guitar, there's an article about EJ's gear and tone. There's a photo of a finishing washer and screw at the back corner of the speaker cabinet. He said that it affects the tone and the feel..... What?
The guy's tone is no doubt amazing. But come on, that is just stupid and silly.

I trust Wampler when he says it sounds like this or like that.

Then get a delay pedal and some reverb from a fairly good amp. That's right, a fairly good amp.
