Horrified consumers are foaming at the mouth that the Food and Drug Administration has banned the chemical ingredient
triclosan from hand and body washes — but not toothpaste.
Triclosan is found in Colgate Total, which manufacturer Colgate-Palmolive calls the “only toothpaste approved by the FDA to help fight plaque and gingivitis.”
“It doesn’t make sense. You can’t put it on your skin, but you can put it in your mouth?” asked an incredulous Mark Christopher, 29, of Bushwick, Brooklyn.
