There are two types of mixer consoles in the analog realm. One is an in-line console, and the other one is a split console. The way it is is that the faders, say 1 - 24 are all input faders with their signals coming from mics, line, etc, and a corresponding 24 faders control the outputs coming from the tape machine. These faders would normally be the return faders. A typical example of these types of consoles are the old Soundcraft 2400 and DDA Consoles that were previously found in Greenhill Studios and Viva. What we have at TRACKS is a combination split/in-line, where the faders serve as both line ins and outs but there is another 24 small faders that serve as returns. Such is the complexity of life during the analog days, ... but it was fun!
