The Mobile OS Wars

well i'll be damned...

Samsung developing Tizen OS

Firefox with Firefox OS

Windows Phone

Ubuntu Phone

Blackberry 10

Sailfish OS

Android

iOS

at madami pang dadating.

if you are a mobile app developer, di ka ba malilito kung saang OS ka magdedevelop ng app? sabihin nating for this year, there is an increased market share for this OS tapos nasa beta stage na yung app mo. then next year, biglang naiba ihip ng hangin at napunta sa ibang OS ang favor o taste ng consumers(which means decreased possibility of income in the current OS youre supporting). makakawawa ka ba? i mean its not easy learning how to program an app for a certain OS. tapos kung balak mong i-port sa ibang OS yung kaka-launch pa lang, another headache?

consumers - parang bumabalik na naman tayo sa 1998-2002 era nito. sobrang daming handsets with so many "cool" features. bebenta na naman ang Greenhills nito ah?!

dito pumapasok yung increase in demand for "Web-based Applications" or "WebApps" na pwede i-run on any platforms using their "browsers"..

altho iba pa rin pag Native Application kasi mas nake-cater nun yung power nung specific device unlike pag webapp eh puro "standard" approach at "compatibility".

pero syempre whom-ever dictates the flow of the consumers eh sya ang magdadala ng malaking market share.. iOS for many years dictated it pero nung dumating yung Android nahati na.. pero hindi naman umabot sa "wala ng nagdedevelop" para sa iOS, yung iOS pa rin kasi ang nagiging template of development ng mga developers..

example: makikita mo yung workspace nung isang dev habang ginagawa nya yung app na specifically ilalabas nya for Android OS pero ang hitsura nung "navigation flow" eh iOS like yung "navigation bar", "toolbar", "tab bar" at "action scripts" so tatanungin mo ngayon sya bakit mukhang iOS? ang isasagot sayo eh "papalitan pa yan pag natapos at gumagana na para magmukhang pang Android".

yun ang na-dictate ng Apple dito sa OS business na yung ginagamit ngayon na approach ng competitor nila eh sa kanila nanggaling.. yung "progenitor template" kumbaga hindi makakapag simula ng app development ang isang dev kung wala syang experience or kahit idea lang on developing for the iOS platform.. kasi dun nagsimula ang standard template approach, usability and user experience ng overall applications na gumagamit ng "capacitive multi-touch" touch-screen technology.

very ironic indeed kung titingnan mo.  :-D

probably the fastest and easiest way to make money off of these OS' is to come up with an idea then find a good app dev..bayaran mo na lang yung dev tapos bahala na tayong mag market nung app hehe
