May tatlong supplier ng fiberglass, rockwool, gypsum board and fiber cement board sa MC Home Depot.  You'll not miss them.  Forgot their names lang.

Tip lang:  When buying gypsum board, get the ones from the MC HOME DEPOT SUPERMART.  Yung brand niya BORAL PLASTERBOARD made in Thailand.  The WRIGHT brand being supplied by the other store (inside MC) is very flimsy.  Mas mura though.

Not for anything but it seems we do not know the effectivity of the Han Gan material as an acoustic material.  I have been asking them for a lab test of their material but it seems there is none.  Also, I do not know how safe it is.  I guess these are things you have to ask before buying their material.  Sayang and pera kasi.  If you are talking about evening out the acoustic response of your room, you are better off with traditional acoustic materials such as glass fiber, wood and glass.  Of course you have to understand how to combine all these elements to get the desired result.

FWIW.

sir what do you mean? yung bentang fiberglass and rockwool ng han gang hindi effective?  i ordered  48kg rigid fiberglass and 80kg rigid rockwool.. please enlighten me sir..

I am not sure if Han Gang sells glass fibers or rockwool.  What I know is that they make this foam type material used as heating insulation, which they also pass on as acoustic material.  As I said, this material does not seem to have any acoustical tests or lab measurement results.  Better confirm.

48 kgm glass fiber (BTW Fiberglass is a brand of Owens-Corning Products.  The generic name is glass fiber), is good for outside acoustic surfaces, covered with acoustic textile.  68 kgm is denser, hence harder and nicer as final finish.  For putting inside cavities (as in in between studs and walling), a 38 kgm, even 16 kgm glass fiber in rolls would be sufficient to keep the resonance tamed in the cavities.  There is such as thing as diminishing return.  As you go denser, the effect becomes lesser.  So, why waste money?

As to my comments regardfing even-ing out the response of the room, you have to use the correct ratio between absorbent, diffusive and reflective finishes so the response of your room is almost flat.  I like a LF boost around 250 and down at 60 Hz., but that is my preference.

Sir Mike P, I recently bought a big load of 60kg 50mm rigid rockwool slabs and yes, they do the job.  Apparently they sell rockwool the cheapest so far.  As for Fiberglass, you can check out some other stores at MC Home Depot like WrightFlex (lots of choices) and that other store that sells Owens Corning panels.

I suggest fiber cement over Gypsum board, but doubling Gypsum boards can also help - and they cost cheaper that a single layer of fiber cement.

Sure.  Rockwool and Glass fiber are standard absorber treatments, although there are other newer materials.  Russ Berger (acoustician and studio designer) was telling me of a new cotton based absorber that he makes out in his plant in China, which is preferred because of the "belief" (unfounded) that glass fiber causes cancer.  There are a lot of other newer materials but so far, glass fiber, sometimes termed as mineral wool or fiber, and rock wool are pretty standard.

Skunkyfunk, there are uses of both fiber cement boards and gypsum.  If you need lighter loads, gypsum would be better.  Also, doubling the boards would give you better acoustical isolation, especially if you use boards of different thicknesses.  Also, you can use cement board together with gypsum in a face of a wall, normally sandwiching a limp mass.  It improves the acoustic impedance of the wall.  I have used this technique in a lot of the studios I have designed and built (although there are some acousticians who do not believe in this design direction) to good results.
