Live Sound Setup Questions
« on: September 22, 2007, 02:17:29 AM »
Hi peeps!

Our church is getting some new equipment and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some questions that I have.

1.) What is a DI box? Ive read the description of the thing but I guess my question is if it is really needed, especially the amps we've got has all direct in's already?

2.) Where do I connect the monitor mixer? Should it be a standalone mixer or to be connected to the main mixer?

3.) What would you recommend for an earphone monitor? Yung parang sa PSG ni Madame PGMA type. :-D

4.) Do I need a sonic maximizer or bling nalang yan? :)

Some more questions might arise so pasensya na. Also, I'm not sure if there's been a thread like this. My apologies as well for that.

Thanks!

DI = Direct Injection, and interface that is connected directly to the mixing board. Converts instrument signals to line level signals. Commonly used with bass guitars and keyboards.

Monitor mixer. (if you're using one, it must be a failrly large hall) usually placed adjacent to the stage where the performers are.

Sonic Maximizer If it's a large venue, the Sonic maximizer can help the in making final sound that goes out the main speakers.

my suggestion? Since your church is getting new equipment (a big investment), better to ask the chosen supplier (check Audiophile) to specify the parts and proper set-up, they will also scout your venue for proper installation and configuration. Ask about warranty on parts and service. Ask about training for the operator of your system after the setup.

If you're near SM North Edsa

Try visiting The Music Source for equipments since Mr. Mario Benipayo and Forerunnertech specialized in Live Sound. They can answer all your queries regarding live sound setup.

PM me and I can refer you to Richard (TMS Branch Manager) or philmusic members - mbenipayo or forerunnertech. I Promise you they wont force you to get expensive equipments ... just the one you need :)

And they are really very accomodating :)

Basahin mo muna ito...

Buying A Sound System - ONCE!

Tapos PM mo ako para ma refer kita sa mga tunay na consultants. Huwag ka muna bumisita ng kahit anong tindahan na nagii-specialize sa Live Sound. Mas mabuti ang sigurado.

Thanks guys for the input! I'm still haing trouble pa talaga deciding on the stuff to get and the setup of everything just plain confuses me pa. :-D

I might be getting a B-52 Matrix 2000. Super punchy sound and so easy to setup. So easy even a caveman can do it. :-D

I worship pala at CCF here in Cebu. We're upgrading our stuff kasi mejo mahal din ang rent-a-sound every sunday. :|

I might be visiting Manila soon to check on some suppliers. Ok yung mga referraly nyo and I will sure try to check them out. :-D

Follow Tarkuz Toccata's suggestion.  Read the article and get a real audio consultant.  It will save you a lot of money.  I did the acoustics of CCF Alabang.  An associate did the sound system design who is a member of the church.  If you have questions, ask Tarkuz or me.

Talaga? Used to worship in Alabang when I was up there in Manila for training. Yup the acoustics is great sa Alabang.:)

My contact right now is a certain Christopher from St. Francis. Forgot the last name though; it's in my email. The stuff na nilagay nya sa quote were (almost) all Behringers. Not sure if they're good or not though, but I heard na it's a good bang for buck na. Budget din kasi namin is not that high (600k)...

600k budget? It would be wise to get a 2nd opinion.

Exactly what I'm trying to setup sir. Got me someone from Davao (Better Components) to try to give me a different quote from the one I got from Manila. :-D

They did a demo on their B-52 systems when their shipment was cleared here in Cebu. I gotta say that it was pretty impressive (Matrix-1000). 8-)

Pero yang 600k na quote complete na with monitor mixers, headphones, drums, amps; the works...

The Matrix systems are 3-piece affairs. Seriously, though, did you ever go to a demo that didn't sound good? One thing I'd like to know is where they recommend placing the mix position. If they design it with the mixer off to one side of the stage, get a 3rd opinion.

I see. But yeah I did go to this 1 demo of a sound-for-hire where they sucked. Totally. :-D

But yeah thanks for the heads-up. The mixing console was placed at the back-center when we did the demo. They did recommend that we use 2 Matrix 2000 systems since we currently do our worship in one of Ayala's cinemas. I'll try to check around regarding those sound engineers/consultants. Can't seem to find any here in Cebu. 8-)
