maganda ba ang 12 inch snare?
« Reply #125 on: October 16, 2006, 06:48:30 PM »

tapos sinumpong akong punasan kanina,

hehe

5x12 nga po

unfortunately i dunno how to use it,

its ok to use lazer as the reso head.. and buy a coated ambassador for the batter head...

tune the bottom super tight! to get the maximum pop! same as for the top but not as tight as the bottom

sound?.. basically, one that suits rock, metal, jazz, funk, or best for all types of music.. not much into certain or specific warm or bright sounds actually.. i'm just looking for one that could replace my current busted(lugs) snare.. yet durable enough and will blend well on all types of music..

Do new snares sound bad?
« Reply #136 on: December 05, 2006, 10:40:00 AM »
hi. i just sold my old kit and got a new one (gretsch catalina ashton). Overall sound was great except for the snares. I tried tightening the lugs na eh... Is this normal?

hi there axedry.. you can check out our Chad Smith signature or the firecracker snare by Pearl, if youre into steel snare drums... theyre still available at our showroom in Yupangco.. you can drop by anytime to try em out :-)
but if youre also keen for wood snares,, coming soon (hopefully by March-mid April) we have the Omar Hakim (african mahogany shell) a great-sounding snare that could go a little above your budget but the wait will be worth it :-) it wont hurt to check it out either :-D more snares coming in this summer... more signataure snares (Tico Torres, Jordison, etc), maple and steel piccolos,sensitones...so tell us what kind of sound youre looking for maybe we could help u choose the right snare for you..only Pearl that is :-)

[/quote]

steel snares= more bright, cutting, crisp (lalo pag sa ghost notes), more pronouced crack sound
wood snares=warm, more full bodied sound

generally, thats how steel and wood snares sound.. pero dami din snares that incorporate elements of wood and steel to deliver the sound of both types in one snare..it also depends whether its a maple, birch, mahogany, etc shells. each wood gives a different tone and projection.. pag steel merong aluminum, stainless steel, brass, bronze.. so yun dami choices :-) experiment lang until you find your ideal snare :-)

Which snare to buy?
« Reply #149 on: March 02, 2007, 08:29:30 PM »
I've finally saved up enough money for a "more decent" snare drum. My kit is branded "L.A. Drums", and I bought a Fernando (the old models, sadly) piccolo to replace the stock steel snare. It's not much, pero it's where I learned how to play drums! A few gigs later, nainggit na ko sa snappy snare sound that just wasn't in my old fernando. So, after a few weeks of no lunch, nandito na 'ko!:)

I'd like to ask for help lang. Alam naman natin na piliin natin kung anong may magandang tunog para sa'tin regardless of brand or price, pero you guys have been GASSING for years, baka may feedback kayo sa mga prospective new snare drums ko. :-D

Sonor 3005 Birch Snare - Ganda ng itsura, mas maganda tunog! I can only afford the full birch. Both birch and maple sound different, but daym my jaw dropped upon hearing both!

Gretsch Nighthawk Piccolo - Sabi sa JB ATC, maple daw 'to. Pero I doubt it kasi low-end ng Gretsch ang Nighthawk diba? Clarifications anyone?  It was a 13 x 4" snare with a evans head that could easily be the best piccolo I've ever heard. (It cracked better than my  friend's Pearl Piccolo, and of course my fernando) Ayaw ko na sana bumili ng piccolo snare pero wala eh, nagandahan ako sa tunog!

So eto ung tinest-run ko sa JB kanina. You might've guessed by now that my snare drum budget is around 5k++. Eh what can I do, the best I've played is a Yamaha Stage Custom sa isang gig. Maganda tunog nung pareho, pero what do you guys think? Other recommendations (within my budget of course) are welcome as well! Thanks!

Pinoydrums Lanyard - North distribution THIS SUNDAY, 2PM, TMS Alimall!
