NGD: New Gadget Day..Samsung Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5100
« on: January 08, 2014, 11:27:19 AM »

A friend of mine sold me a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5100 for a good price and decided to take it since its a good opoprtunity for me to go paperless and mobile... gone are the days of going to meetings and bringing a notebook and pen, and i figured its great for presenting ideas to clients...or show photos or stuff you are selling and even a good "Song Chord Kodigo" rather than bringing your song book during jamming...

I just picked it up blindly as it was cheap--as he just won it at a company party raffle......lazy and uninterested to read reviews and features so to you who know about this piece of gadget share some of your knowledge and experience..all I know is its got a sim card and phone feature, and its got a pen..that would be great for me to sketch out ideas or jot down notes whenever..

Yortots?

Cheers!

I think this will come in very handy in your daily routines. I decided to purchase my first tablet (Samsung Galaxy tab 7.0 plus) Last year since i was having a hard time bringing my laptop to gigs and it  was also pretty embarrassing to whip out a big ass laptop during weddings so i could see my lyrics. Very useful indeed!

My thought?

I think Apple still has the edge when it comes to tablets. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an apple fan boy. I prefer android when it comes to phone but when it comes to tablets, Apple wins unanimously.  Why? Because iOS has apps that are designed specifically for the iPad unlike the apps that you can see in the Google Play. But preference will prevail at the end of the day and besides, that's a Samsung tab. That will still help you a lot and I mean "A LOT". Congrats on your new gadget by the way!  :)

thanks...stil need to get to use to it, but i try to keep myself not to attached to these gadgets..just new stuff to experience and learn, and try to maximize its use to simplify life..well see..right now, just setting it up and installing important apps first..breaking it in a bit ..hopefully could bring it to meetings and integrate it in my work..the S-pen  has huge potential, especially for quick concept sketchs and studies..

The pen would come in handy. From jotting down notes to noodling/drawing quick diagrams.

Although Im an android user, i couldnt agree more to what you said, iba pa rin talaga pag apple. The reason why i prefer to use android is because its much more convenient for me to transfer files and to use it as my cellphoneü haha

For my use case, the only advantage of Apple tablets are the portrait mode reading (since its ratio is 4:3). It's good for reading documents and comics. But our family is still using Android tablet and phones. The expansion SD card is unbeatable. The S-pen is very good as it's not just a regular pen but a wacom one, calibrated pressure and all that. Plus Samsung got that split and floating windows, good for multi-tasking on tablet/phone.

As for the updates, I'm on the fence here. Apple has great track of rolling out updates across the supported models. For Android, it's the wild wild west out there, he he he. If time permits, I usually dabble into rooting and flashing our phones. I guess it's the effect of years of experimenting with different OSes on x86 computers (Linux distros, BSDs, BeOS clones, ReactOS and plethora of hobbyist OSes).

BTW Gandy, akala ko ayaw mo ng smart thingy? Bwahahahahaha!

how many gig?mas ok kung mai-_root mo yan, endless possibilities.hehe rooting is to android, jailbreaking is to ios.Rooting allows you to "bind" external memory card to physical memory alottment..lets say your available space is 16gb internal,2gb of that is for memory,4gb sa system na.May mga apps/games na umaabot ng 1gb and hindi pwede itransfer sa memory card(meaning dun sa 2gb na memory siya papasok ayun,1gb nalang matitira hehe)plus rooting allows you to use ps3 controller.:) anyway kung hindi ka naman gamer, idisregard mo nalang yung magulo kong explanation hehehe..
