Sir matanong ko lang. Ano pinagkaiba ng thinner at thicker reso snare head? Evans Hazy 200(2-mil), Evans Hazy 300(3-mil), Evans Hazy 500(5-mil)?
Currently using Ambassador Hazy(3-mil) since production bali mga 9 years na. HAHAHAHAHA!!   Iniisip ko kung mag Hazy 500 ako or Hazy 300 parin.
Gusto ko mag tunog dark and dry pero halatang kahoy parin yung tunog. Thanks!!  :-D
I haven't had to swap out my reso heads yet, but thicker resos are more durable and probably darker, but with less snare response i think. I'm guessing thinner resos are for jazz, when you need your ghost notes to respond to light taps, and thicker resos are for heavy styles without ghost notes, so you won't bust your reso heads when laying heavy on the snare.

Ahh. Is it better to stick to 3-mil than changing to 5-mil? Gusto ko kasi marinig yung body sound eh. Since magpapalit ako ng Batter head. Gusto ko na isabay yung reso. Bigla kasi akong na OC sa brands. Snares ko nalang ang naka remo. Hahahaha!  :-D

I'd stick to 3 mil. 5 mil seems like it'll be less open and responsive.

As to the brands, wag ka ma-OC! there are people who mix up different brands for different drums; it really depends on what the product does. AFAIK especially in other drum forums, there seems to be a trend that Remo = toanz and Evans = consistency and durability. people seem to love single ply Remos and double ply Evans, for toms. For snares, people seem to like Fiberskyn, Coated Emps and Ambs, Emp/Black X from Remo, and Hydraulics, Onyx, Genera, and EC from Evans.

Ok sir! Noted. Hehehe. :) will buy 3-mil reso.

Tried all the tuning my Ambassadors from loose to tight. Wala talaga eh.  :-(

Rimshots, Better sticking, and better sticks.

kung sa ambassadors di mo pa rin marinig yung body ng snare, something else is wrong. either the snare is wrong, or the technique is wrong na.

How about medium tuning?
medium tuning sya kasi ang kapal ng head, and the lugs dont really go that far.

basically tama si ralph, if its not the heads or the sticks or the sticking, its the snare.
maybe a 14x5.5 maple just isn't for you. trade mo na sa ibang snare.

actually ang maple kasi is very warm sounding so baka kaya di mo siya naririnig.

kasi ako im using a Birch 14 x 5 snare sa bahay, tight tuning, ambassadors only. sobrang woody na for me. so baka yung material rin ang to blame. plus diecast hoops pa ata ang BP so mas muted sounding siya.

Hehehe.

Anyway, salamat ng marami sir!  :-D

Yup. Die cast nga siya. Baka mag sonic saver ako in the future kung hindi masolve problem ko sa heads. Hassle talaga pag hindi mo makuha yung gusto mong tunog. Hehehe.

Salamat ng marami sir. :-D

Most probably hoops nga bro.

pero AFAIK, hoops will help! try borrowing muna before purchasing!

Post ulit!!!!

Hahahaha!!

Bought a 13x3 brass snare from sir plep. nakakabit pa yung Fiberskyn 3 head and Ambassador reso, tuned tight. Too piccolo-y for my taste. I tuned it down, tapos yun, ayos! It matched the pitch of my 14x5 but with less body and more thwack and overtones. May binigay si sir na used Evans Power Center reverse dot I think. basta may dot sa loob. I tuned it at medium tension. It was even better. I can tune the batter just a bit tighter for a slightly higher pitch without sacrificing the mids. I can't wait to slap a two ply Onyx or black Response-2 on it and see how much further I can raise the pitch without making it thin.

Of course it will never have the boom of a snare at least 5 inches deep, but I like it that way, enough mids to power through, lots of overtones, lots of ring, and high pitched enough to separate itself from the mix. I think I'd only change my snare for a power piccolo when the thump needs to be there.

I need to change the snare wires and cords on that snare tho.
