Ang kinaiinis ko talaga e discrimination from other "musicians".

I posted this reply in the linked thread above, and I'll re-post it here...

I also agree with most of what was mentioned here - buhat ng gamit, investment sa drum gear, yung physical demands ng pagiging drummer, bad house kits, etc...

But I'm in no position to complain, because this is what I chose to do in life.  It's my passion and lifestyle, and I'm loving it.

Bro gep... Defensive ka kaagad hehe joke!  Don't worry, I'm no discriminating a-hole.  8-)

*****

The best thing to do regarding these issues... Take it as a challenge!

Money problems?  Save up.  Work harder on your finances.

Support from parents?  Show them how serious you are with your craft.  Give plenty of thought about making a career as a musician.  Plan ahead.  Make sure that you'll be able to earn a living as a musician & be able to support yourself.  Work harder on your craft so that they'll realize how exceptionally good you are.

Gender discrimination?   Let your performance do the talking.

Discrimination from other musicians?  Don't give a sh**.  Don't let their egos and discouragement bother you.  And again, let your performance do the talking.

Hauling a truckload of gear?  Invest on bags or cases which can help you transport gear more conveniently.  Look for somebody to help you.  Look at the bright side - carrying gear is like having a workout; it's good for the body!

Poor house kits?  Don't let it drown your spirits.  Show the world that you can still play well, even if it's a sh***y kit (Kapag talagang bulok yung house kit, ibang usapan na yon hehe...).

Hearing concerns?  Take care of your hearing while you're still young.  Don't abuse your hearing.  Know your limitations.  Use hearing protection when needed.

Physical concerns?  Take good care of your health.  Don't follow the no pain no gain principle.  Know your body and its limitations.

Thieves stealing your hard-earned drum gear?  Take more precautions.  Be alert.  Never lose your sanity (ex. - overdrinking).  Never leave your gear unattended.  Invest on security equipment such as padlocks for bags and cases, etc.  Make an equipment list.  Note down the serial numbers of your precious gear.

I know it's easier said than done.  But I hope you get my point...  Look at these issues in a different perspective... In a more constructive approach.  Take it as a challenge.  That's life.  It's not always easy being a drummer...   8-)

usuall mo na maririnig ung ganito: im not going show/teach you my lick (pramis)

pra sakin masmagastos ang pagiging guitarista or bassista...

mas madaling magipon pra sa drums keysa sa guitars and other gadjets

pero all in all, what it comes down to, is wala sa instrumento yan, nasa player. kahit cheap na RJ guitar pa yan kung halimaw ka naman walang diperensya yun.

how about naming some good points of being a drummer naman... for me we have more control of our arms, legs and brain that we are very good in 'multi tasking'... :-D

walang nag aaway at mababait kasi pre wala tayo pera pambili ng high end gear  :-D hehehe  :-D

walang may high end gear kaya walang pang compare

walang comparison kaya walang away

imagine, 4x more ang gastos natin to get a decent setup kesa sa gitarista na happy na with a 20k geetar and 15k amp samantalang basic cymbal setup pa lang natin yun

As a bassist, malaki respect ko for our band's drummer (Alan Po). So I help him along by bringing some of the gear (heck, the whole band helps with his gear), and we all look out for his stuff. the drummer is the center of our sound; we can have substitute guitars, and we've done subsitute bass, but never the drummer or the vocals.

my issue about drumming is arthritis. dang man! i'm only 26 and i feel it creeping already.

yo basscog! welcome sa pinoydrums!

pansin ko nga, madalang ang mga drummers na nagyayabangan, instead, they give each other tips. iisa pa lang ang nakita kong drummer na mayabang eh. he's from our area kaso bumalik na ata ng manila.

kami nga ng drummer ko (yes, may isa pa kaming drummer, he's the original - bali keyboards ako pag andito sya) asaran kami parati pag alam namin na may sabit kaming 2.

I think depende yan sa barkada ng mga banda that you're in; sa aming barkada, all the bassists talk to each other about stuff, pero true, the drummers interact with each other more.

pero worth it lahat every gig!!!! :)
