bought and owned one, i'm glad i got rid of it. its really very novel but once you get down to really using it, you'll realise that nothing compares to the feel and possibilities even with the most conventional/unbranded double pedal there is. no matter what adjustments could be done to it, there is no way, i repeat NO WAY that you could make it responsive and light like a standard doubleped. you ought to have huge legs or calfs for that matter. and there are a lot of double pedalin beat patterns that you couldnt do with this pedal. if you just want to cheat your way through single strokes and simple triplets, then this could be for you. switching between single and double mode, is not tricky, its almost next to impossible, considering that the lockin/switchin mechanism is matigas, sometimes di pa kumakagat. it takes a while before gettin used to it but i just didnt have the patience and would rather exert my efforts in learnin how to double ped properly with standard doublepeds. the adverts/videos make it look easy but trust me, it isnt. luckily someone insisted in buyin it off me despite my warnings. im pretty sure he's tossed it out the window already.

here's a pic of it insulting my kit. im never gonna treat my humble kit that way again i swear: (http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f307/oramismo/DSC0004250a.jpg)

ps: it is also not stable or flatly secured/aligned/parallel to the floor when attached to the kick...naka-angat yung pwet nya ng konti and when i use it my kick and rack toms are shakin like crazy. and the beaters weigh like a rock..1 duallist beater is heavier than 2 pearl quad beaters. overall, the device's disadvantages outweigh its benefits. some could disagree but this is my piece of mind and i hope it helps.

There are plenty of products out on the market right now which can help us drummers play better and become more creative.  But when it comes to playing plenty of kick drum notes, I don't want to cheat on it.  I'd rather work hard on my double bass technique than getting a contraption like the Duallist Pedal to make things easier.  Double pedal pa rin para sa akin!

There are probably a few drummers who can practically use the Duallist Pedal.  For example: physically challenged drummers - those with one leg, or somebody with a temporarily injured leg.

The Duallist Pedal is not for everybody.  It is indeed a novel product.  If a drummer uses a Duallist Pedal, I want to see and hear him/her play creative parts out of it, not just a way of cheating on double bass patterns.

Which reminds me... I'll look for some Thomas Lang videos on YouTube.  He has this Sonor Twin Effect pedal (similar concept as the Duallist) on his setup, which plays a percussion block.  Now that sounds creative...

 8-)

i want to be the  's advocate

common guys, its a TOOL and what do tools do for us? make our work easier

if i use a hammer to drive a nail to the wall, am i cheating? or i now use cordless driver to screw down stuff, is it still cheating since i no longer have to do manual effort?

its "supposed" to let you do things fast. as a tool, it has its pros and cons, its not the end all and be all (why do you need 2 kinds of hammers, the one with the claw and the other with the ball end) so use it and use your regular pedal. why put a limit on yourself?

i still use regular screw drivers when my cordless is charging  :-D

i believe bangbus when he says the construction is crap, he had first hand experience, but for guys to diss on an idea, not cool  :x (no disrespect bro, not aimed at you)

by the way, sonor's giant step is actually 2 footboards on one pedal. you cant play it using your regular technique. need to work on your heel-toe to properly use the pedal. you cant "cheat" here since you have to really practice to use it

the question remains: regular screw driver or black and decker cordless driver?

Title: Re: The Duallist Triple Pedal
Post by: bangbus on December 06, 2006, 06:45:51 PM
it has its own purpose and advantage though for some applications. however, what i dont like about it is its inability to respond and feel like a conventional double pedal...no matter what adjustments u do it, u simply need muscular legs to operate it the way an oridinary person would on his eliminators. bottomline, it is not responsive, light and fast. plus there are lots of double pedal beats that you just couldnt do with this thing. im pretty sure yung demo artist who looks like mr. bean feels the same, his lopsided grin sends out signals that he's strugglin with it at some parts.

some of its well known endorsers include:

Will Calhoun- Living Color
Charlie Benante- Anthrax
Sola Akringbola- Jamiroquai
Ron Thaler- Alicia Keys/Rob Thomas
Denny Seinwell- Paul McCartney
Miles Bould- Sugababes

meh some people are just too serious. what's wrong with saying "grammar fail"-- it's funny. just like this picture:

it's not funny if we're in china because we wouldn't be obligated to know english there, but this is the philippines, english is a lingua franca here.

lighten up. this is a music forum. if you're really, really serious about drums, go learn zappa's black page right now, master playing in 19/16 or something, and don't waste precious time on an internet forum.

matuto kasing wag mapikon.
--------------------------------------------------------------
BTT:
some opinions floating around the net re: the duallist say it's cheating. i disagree with that just because music is not a game/competition. if something can help you create music then it has served its purpose.

some people also say that it has durability issues and that the sonor giant step models are a better choice. that's just according to them btw.

let's just answer his question kasi yun naman talaga ang objective ng thread na to, kahit may konting error sa grammar eh naiintindihan pa rin naman natin. so i don't see anything wrong with it, lalo na, hindi naman niya sinasadya. anyway. desidido ka na ba sa Duallist talaga bro? D1, 2 or D3?

mas mahal pa sa axis double ped yang dualist e, bulky pa. its clearly a waste of moneyin my opinion.

bakit ndi na lang pagaralan ng nephew mo na mag pedal slide, heel-toe or swivel technique para magtunog double peds sya...o kaya hand to feet quads para mas lalong tunog double peds. kahit mga simpleng single ped lang pwede na, parang duallist na at a very huge fraction of the duallist's price.

opinion lang po...

i guess duellist creators wanted to be known in their own way. i mean, siguro yung ang gusto nila i-establish...but definitely you have a good point.

maybe he's good in ENGLISH especially in grammar but maybe he's not good in music, di katulad ng others do here in PHILMUSIC, RESPECTING all post/threads here...

actually 18K is quite reasonble naman, it cost $349 sa musiciansfriend and kung gamitin mo yung "black box" sa pobox.ph e magdadagdag ka ng $30 so $379 using today's exchange rate, PhP 17300.00 ( http://coinmill.com/PHP_USD.html#USD=380 leaves the seller with a little profit..
