I'll help out if I can.

With your permission, I can attempt to transcribe everything in article format for Web publishing. I write for PinoyPC and it wouldn't be half-bad for me to cover some of the aspects in recording.

As an update, we now have 2 possible venues for this endeavour. I won't divulge them yet because marvinq and I are still ironing out some matters with this project. Those who are interested, please PM me so I can get a headcount.

We're still garnering more support for this project and seeking some sponsorship because this can be a somewhat large undertaking. Trying to fit a recording and mixing session within the space of 4 hours while providing a tutorial does take some detailed planning. Unfortunately, we also have our jobs to attend to so that takes a substantial chunk of our time.

There are possible venues for this event already, and several forum members have come forward with some form of assistance, one has even volunteered to document this event and publish the article online - we've even drawn up specs for low-, mid-, and high-end computers for recording although only the low-end has been finalized so far.

I've been awfully busy with work, however, and these "-ber" months are typically the start of a very busy season for me. I might have to pass the reins for this project. Any volunteers?

I'm sorry if I chose a wrong thread. I just don't know where to post this question.

What do we need to do/have if we'll be producing an album (i mean other than finances and the songs of course)? like paperworks (where do we apply for copyright of the songs, do we need something registered sa SEC or DTI or DOTC lol), contacts... any other things you guys can suggest?

Thanks a lot in advance  :D

toshelman,

can you create a new topic so that you will get a lot more responses? You can apply for copyright from the National Library; apply for the entire album, it's cheaper.

nakatry na ba kayong mag record ng fusion band i mean paano sila nag rerecord by track ba or rekta na? gumagamit pa ba sila ng metronome?

mga fusion bands usually eh lahat singkupado (offbeat) kaya di na nagamit ng metro. Usually 1st track eh guide guitar or keyboards (kung may keyboards yung band) lang muna ni rerecord muna and tumutug on the background parang jamming lang.

sunod na track na ang drums, bass and so on and so forth.

sa mixing na lang magkakatalo then imumute or delete na lang yung track nung guide guitar. ;)

a brilliant thread you have here...as for me, i only started micing my kit last june and out of impulse i bought a VST (vision sound tech) 12-channel preamped mixer and 2 300watts speakers from JB (i dont know if its any good to you fellas) and loads of cheap ass sony raon bangketa mics (i didnt have the budget for decent ones and im still learnin my options). my primary objective was to amplify the volume or the thug sound of the drums to get that gig feel at home as i dont have a band anymore coz of work/grad school but i miss playin around town.

well the mixer and crapy mics did amplify the kit but im sure i could do more with the sound quality thats why im gettin new mics like shure pg52 and pg57 as an 'expensive' first step (thanks peeves24 for the enlightenment)...as for recordin, i am eager to experiment and learn how to connect the mixer to my pc and record the 'real' sound projected by the kit and not the cardboard boxes sounds when recorded by a video cam...recordin video and audio (simultaneously) using different devices (video cam and mixer+pc) then putting them together using a software is somethin i look forward to learnin...thanks leigh for givin me this idea.

i just dont know if my mixer is good enough for this job...baka pang-amplify lang ng volume, or ok na yung mixer and just get good mics? what do you think?

its quite confusing what u r really trying to accomplish. r u just gonna make some kind of music video that is recorded as live? so when you sync the video and the audio it'll produce the sound from all mic ins instead of the ambience sound from the drums?

if thats the case...
1. mics and mixer that'll do if you dont want a real fancy kind of sound meaning just for your own enjoyment.
queries...
1. What you really need is the basic setup of mics for a drumkit and balancing the sound of each(toms, snare, bass, cymbals).
2. What kind of input are you using to the pc? is it just the onboard audio card?
3. what software are you using?

e_o_i-jepoy,

You may want to refer to bangbus' thread here.

@bangbus - Try to pick up some issues of Electronic Musician, Mix, Recording, and Sound on Sound. Aside from the Tweakheadz site, these mags are a great resource about pro audio and recording. Also visit the Sound on Sound website and use their search function. SoS usually have their written articles onsite and are an excellent resource for info, for ex., compression.
