Thank god for "HMV" dibidis - there are a lot of great jazz finds in those cellophane wrapped stacks.

Where Tower fails us, dibidis deliver. My latest find is "Steps Ahead in Europe", recorded live in 1987 in Copenhagen for Danish TV. The lineup is Michael Brecker (tenor), Mike Manieri (vibes), Eliane Elias (piano), Eddie Gomez (acoustic bass), and Peter Erskine (drums).

Payatot pa si Erskine (and has a lot of hair), and Eliane Elias is just an 18-year old baby on piano here (fresh off the boat from Brazil apparently and before she married Randy Brecker). I think she followed the original Steps Ahead keyboardist Don Grolnick.

The video is TV quality (it was a TV special after all) but the audio quality is top notch! Great compositions and solos!! The music hasn't aged a bit.

steps ahead is indeed a dibidi to treasure... all star cast! definitely a great buy.
