Siguro kung hindi ginagamit, corrosion will be the only problem.

Your fretwires should be shiny for better feel and playability. Bending strings feels so much better when your fretwires are well-maintained.

A#1: Normal string wear.

A#2: Switch from nickel-silver frets to stainless steel frets.

Scotch brite. If you can get your hands on a fine grade steel wool, do so. (And contact me. lol)

0000 grade steel wool. Just be sure to mask the fingerboard to expose only the fretwires. Really fulfilling task when done. Nakakasilaw sa kintab, smooth magbend ng strings.  :-)

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try it when I change strings.

Won't it somehow level the fret a bit, though?

No. That's why you have to use 0000 grade.

The 0000 steel wool won't hurt very much since it's very fine. You'll end up removing the stuck dirt first before really eating the fret wires. Just rub it lightly and with minimal pressure. Just enough remove the dirt and see the shine on the wires.  :-)

Thought so. Hirap makakita eh.

BTT: siguro you should try nickelplated strings...hindi sya masyado harsh sa fretwiress compared to pure steel strings. and lagi magpalit pag may rust na ang strings...nakakaubos din yan ng fretwires.

Less invasive yung coating since eventually, siya yung nababakbak.. and for sure, mas malambot yung coating kesa sa usual na nickel fretwire, therefore, minimal lang ang wear in time.

kahit yung mga NPS (nickel plated steel) na D'Addarios di masyado nakakaubos ng fretwires...basta palitan mo na lang agad pag nagkarust na. gamit ka rin ng Fast Fret para di masyado magastos sa string.

Also, do not forget to wrap the pick-ups with masking tape!  Ultra-fine steel wool breaks-down into very very fine steel dust which is easily picked-up by the pup magnets but is close to impossible to clear out completely.
