. trabaho ko kasi travel all over luzon kaya bili ako sa isabela or pangasinan. .  size(20 X 16 X 2 inches) patuyuin ko ng nga 1 year kung minsan naarawan and ulanan. . . . then trace ko dun sa wood then cut ko ng jigsaw. .  . then shaping. . . chisel, martilyo, woodfile, sandpaper, drill, screwdriver etc. .  .

2. Yap, Gumawa na rin ako ng neck (nung wala pa ko pambili late 1980,s), out of big slab of good hardwood(guijo, my favorite wood: parang maple din sya: correct me if im wrong pls.) shape it(very very hard labor) then carefully pantayin yung magiging fretboard then decide yung gusto mo scale length nung guitar para sa sukat nung spacing ng frets, meron formula para ma compute yun, di ko maalala. .  post ko, next wik, nasa prob ung kodigo ko. . . . mga patay na cguro(joke ). . este veteran na ngayon. . .
meron ako souveneir na guitar kaya lang nasa california, its is still very nice and sound good, ,  made of narra yung body. . .  yabang. .  hehe. .

Baka tanong mo ano na ko ngayon. . .  Comm. engr. sa Transco. . . hobby ko lang making and Playing guitar. . . .  Band: "Pangas band" kasama ko si tubero. .

hikli tanong nitotela. . .  kwento na buhay  :-D

hope that helps!

but if you look at instruments from all over, the luthiers made them from local wood.  before free trade and all they made do with what was available and i guess the yardstick was set.  i often wondered what if stardivarius only had malungay for tonewood and leo fender only had santol.  we'd probably GAS over malungay and santol guitars today

my take on this - if they only had malunggay or santol for tonewood, they won't be where they are now.  imo, not all types of wood are designed to be used for musical instruments.  :-)

because some woods just sound dead...
i definitely agree!  stadovariyussi who??  but he will still be making violins, tapos ulam niya munggo at malungay
i wish i could get my hands on some bosnian maple, the same stuff he used.  mura lang online (relatively) but shipping and customs will probably kill my wallet.  still, its on my sights, WASSING for it...

They price according to the volume, not the weight--which i great. Best shoot them an email for custom dimensions. ;-)

send me a plank and let's see what happens
free ba :-D
hehehe

It definitely perked my interest.  Prior to my cebu trip, I haven't heard of it.  :-)  Oh, and "banuyo" as well.

Just got home. Mom and I bought that Igim stuff from the hardware. I thought it was furniture per se (cabinet, tables, chairs, etc), pero parang parts lang pala. I think I saw one before kasi thesis yun ng classmate ko sa isang Pulp and Paper subject. It was a relatively white wood.

Anyway, it was the merchandiser from the hardware that said it was Igim. It was also pretty hard to acquire din daw. Can't send you guys a plank sample so I just took some pics a while ago. The grains look good. This is a cabinet door which measures 12x30 inches, with a thickness of 1 inch.

bro is there any way to see the end grain?  i just want to find out how it was cut.  da best if the grains are 60-90 degrees with respect to the wide side.  sana medyo quartersawn.  if not, baka pwedeng neck wood yan, pero laminared. its too thin to use for solid bodies (unless you stack it).
does it dent when you press your fingernail on it?

Will try to snap some more pic tomorrow bro. Hehe.

About the fingernail, it does dent, but not much. Just a really small denting, masakit siya sa kuko if I press any harder.

4th pic bro shows the end grain.

4th pic, yun yung pinaka edge nung top surface niya. Parang carved kasi yung dating niya.

5th and 6th pic, yan yung 1 inch na thickness niya.

pre if you sand the end smooth you'll see which direction the grain is going

and ask if the supplier has 2 inch planks.  para sa solid body.

is the wood heavy?

if that's taken from a hardware, mukhang malabo na quartersawn yan.

Can't do modifications on the cabinet door bro, it's going to be used sa pinapagawang cabinet ng mom ko eh. So I guess kung ano lang kaya ko mapicturan, hanggang dun lang ako.

The 30x12x1 door weighs a flat 2kgs.. around 4.4lbs.

No idea bro.

nah we are having fun, woody fun  :-D but i will try that walnut stain.

BTW, this is a 15+ year old RJ rokker i bought for 5k iirc with amp pa :-D. yun neck nya ganyan din yun wood. (reminds me of coco lumber lols). the alnico pro 2 SD sounded full in this guitar, but trebly on my MIJ basswood ibanez. so i thought it works best with trebly pickups.

personally i dont like painting over wood that has good looks.  i look at the maple tops that are stained/painted over and i go "why??"

but that's just me, thats just my taste :-D
