kurt cobain- made me play guitar.
jimi hendrix- coz he made me wanna play more.
wes montgomery- coz of his speed of thought while playing through fast changes.
bb king- for his simple licks but very hard to copy phrasing.
danny gatton- technique
frank zappa- his compositional mind.
jerry donahue- his bending technique is weird
mike stern- also his weird licks
john scofield- again his weird licks.
mark knopfler- nice simple arpeggios but used wisely on the right spots.
steely dan session guitar players. i dont know their names but the ones who soloed on peg, my old school, josie, green earrings, and bodhisattva are quite influential
billy gibbons- great tone. simple but groovy.
duane allman- great tone and phrasing.
that guitar player from average white band- just plain funky, very hard to learn single note rhythmic soloing phrasing i don't know what to call it...
lonnie johnson- he is bb kings influence and it's just nice old acoustic blues.
i also listen to non guitar players, horn sections are funky... can learn wah technique from them.
brian setzer- flirty sounding whammy bar. like the solo on stray cat strut.
albert king- coz i think there is an albert king lick in everyone. i could hear it even on someone who doesn't know him. ah, maybe because he has influenced a lot of blues players. claptons solo on strange brew is exactly like albert king solo on oh, pretty woman.
randy rhoads- the only shredder i like, i can't explain why.
joni mitchell- i like her open tunings.
django reinhardt- amazed by what he could do with just two fingers.
so many influences to mention but these are my favorites.
