Wala akong masyadong kilalang drummer.  Drummer ng Slipknot.  Meron yung video niyang halos magdrums siyang patiwarik (concert.  yung stage mismoang umangat.  nakastrap siya sa upuan niya gamit 5-point harness na pang car-racing).  Subukan nyong i-Limewire.  Doon ko nakuha, e.  la lang.
..and when they come, we'll make great pets.

well, in my experience just play the rosanna beat againts ah death metal/fusion drummer and most of the time they will shut up for good.

Ringo Starr= hes not into speed drumming. i like him coz hes drumming has emotions put into it. and besides any drummer who can takes up the challenge and play for TWO of the greatest songwriters (ofcourse its JOHN LENNON AND PAUL McCARTNEY )in rock history is definitely good.

I guess kung pure virtuosity on drums, isa lang yan.

Buddy Rich.

Why? Kasi if you ask the top guns, Weckl, Donati, Bozzio,
anybody, even the one's who have stretched the boundaries of drumming to the limit.
Sabi din sa 25th anniversary ng Modern drummer, Buddy rich is the greatest drummer who ever lived as voted by the readers.

Meron akong dvd ni Virgil Donati, drum solo for Ring of Fire band, and yun drum solo nya sa Steve Vai in Astoria. When I first saw it i said , ultimate ito. It's unreal!
Pero i saw a Video of buddy rich doing a drum solo in the 70's, gamit nya yun maliit na four piece nya.
Parang impossible gawin. Then i tried watching the virgil solos again, and they seemed boring, biglang nawalan ng dating.

Vinnie Colaiuta.

This guy can do it all. He plays every style of music, great chops, great time, great groove and feel for music, etc.

Buddy Rich may have the fastest hands and one of the best techniques of all time, but I've never heard him play anything other than jazz-style (bebop, swing, etc.). Vinnie Colaiuta played everything, including heavy metal, prog rock (Frank Zappa), jazz, big band, etc.

Well I'm pretty sure if you ask Vinnie he'd say Buddy....

I think Buddy chose not to play what "modern" drummers
are playing. I don't think he tried to learn to play  "modern" either.
Can't really blame him, his style is part of a certain era.
But IF, IF, IF he chose to, I think he would have been a monster
modern drummer as well, more so if he happened to be born in another era and had the same talent and drive he had.

Also depends on what your definition of greatest is.
If it's the greatest session drummer, Vinnie might
have a fight with Gadd, but Gadd kills him I believe.

My definition is sheer virtuosity. I've seen a long clip
of vinnie soloing, as an avid drum solo fan, I wasn't that
impressed really. I think Dave Weckl has a higher level of skill than Vinnie.

This is all debatable you know. It's just my opinion
as an avid drum fan.

Vinnie is part of that best list for sure but FAR from being the greatest,
I'm sure.

If you ask any drummer, they would say Buddy. Heck, ask any pro musician who the best is in his/her instrument and they would probably say Buddy. He was a real virtuoso in his own instrument, really mastered it like no other (I agree with you here).

I think it's Vinnie because he tried out every style out there, and to me that means a lot. Gadd was the pioneer and was also one of Vinnie's influences. However, I haven't seen Gadd do heavy metal (like Megadeth), nor do a lot of polyrhythms and odd time signatures.

With regard to Weckl, I would have to disagree with you. Weckl is really good, he's like a drum machine, however his solos are more technical rather than musical. Vinnie is really deep when it comes to solos, even including a lot of metric modulation in them.

What you've said made perfect sense dude.
You're right.

Regarding Weckl, yes some people do consider him to be a
machine of sorts. I do however enjoy technicality a lot.
That's the only reason i placed him above Vinnie in my book.
It's his technical precision that attracts me as a listener.
As I said it's debatable. Actually Vinnie placed higher than Dave in that 25th nniversary MD issu. He was 9th and Dave was 13 or 14.
So more people might agree with your opinion.

For those reading ,Vinnie Actually was said to have played
the "Black Page", one of Frank Zappa's hardest pieces
with lots of difficult drumming, during his audition for frank,
used Bozzio's Double bass drum kit and passed the audition.

Vinnie's a GREAT drummer!

Peace dude.

Haha, yes he was first known in the late 70's for his work with Zappa.

There's a story that he was reading sheet music from Zappa in 21/16 time signature while playing with one hand because on the other hand was a pair of chopsticks. He was eating sushi while playing the piece!

(correct me rin if im wrong! ^_^)

si Gene Krupa nga ba nag improve ng use ng hi hats na i-elevate un to body level pra mkapag ostinato ka using it??? dati kasi daw, history ng hi-hats is foot level lng used as pang-"chick" lng.. (ooops! off topic!)

naka show down din ni Buddy rich si gene krupa eh... May nkita kc akong pic thru internet.. black and white pa(xmpre).. tatlo nga sila eh... ksama nila si Mel Torme.. (not so famous ata si Mel..)

2nd to me is Akira Jimbo!!! Grabeh!!! One man band with the use of triggering devices attached at different parts of his kit!!! hirap ng ginagawa niya...

Sa Pinoy drummers nman, si Mr. Haley Alarcon ng P.O.T.!!! galing mgdala ng groove!!! and for over-all si Mr. Jun Regalado and Mr. Koko Bermejo!!!
