Band Profile: BARABBAS

Barabbas started out as a four-piece death/thrash outfit consisting of Chi Jebulan (vocals), Joy and Allan Legason (bass and drums), and Jason Jumawan (guitars) on 2001, playing original compositions and covering Carcass.

Allan left the band at the second half of 2004 to concentrate on his culinary career, and was replaced by Jokar Morales formerly of Eternal Now and D.I.N. Jok's love for ungodly tempo shifts, breakdowns and intricate playing took the band to a new and more mathematically degressive direction.

Jason decided to call it quits September 2005 after setting up a business. Ron Ibanez and Ben Obed were tapped to fill the vacant guitar slot, and the rest of the guys saw this opportune time to make things heavier.

On September 2006 and after five years of unrelenting metal, Barabbas parted ways with lead vocalist Chi Jebulan citing indifferences in what direction should the band pursue and was later replaced by Jayrold Juerzon Tabuzo, the relative newcomer in the band. Jay-r as we call him injected a new agressive voice style giving the band the needed boost to carry on further.

The band was featured at Reverb section of Urge Magazine early 2006, which eventually lead to Barabbas’ being included as regular performers for the magazines’ annual extreme sport & music event The X Series (Urge Tour).

The Barabbas “Primer” CD was released at the later part of 2007, containing 4 songs, 1 music video & 2 live video performances. The cd was given free to people at gigs caught tripping out at the bands’ live sets. Then Leviathan.org, a south American metal webzine interviewed the band, as well as local heavy music bastion Filipinometal.com.

Come November 2007 vocalist Jay R Tabuzo was let go due to the singer’s tardiness and erratic schedules which disrupted the band’s gigs & rehearsals resulting in the cancellation of some playing dates. July 2008 Ron Ibanez left and Jason Jumawan (original guitarist) came back to fill the spot.

Gabs Ramos was tapped to replace Jay R on vocal duties. As of present Barabbas is building up its armory of new songs and gears and is in the process of recording their full length album.

Sir, can we join your future events?

Band: Sweep of shadows
Genre: Metal
Contact:0927-405-3271
www.myspace.com/sweepofshadows

Hailing from Sampaloc, Manila, Sweep of Shadows have been through numerous changes of style to their music. From Unspoken Legend,Harvest of Eden, and to Unleashing the Shadows its an execution of dark depressing tunes, progressive, and experimental to create an abnormal sound that depicts vagrant emotions of melancholia and subconscious horror. Sweep of Shadows combined their music from their influences such as doom, power, black, prog, and technical death. Founded by guitarist Maverick Leal (ex-LUST SUFFER )under the name "Bacon Briefs" in 2004 consisting of painting students of UST which include Glenn Eroles(guitars) and Victor Frane (vocals) who's later replaced by Walter Bandojo (vocals). The band covered songs from Iron Maiden, Skid Row,and other metal rock bands. But they were disbanded because their drummer, Paul Marfil ( exSCYTHEOVAMON, exPLAGPUL, exTALAHIB, exSIXTOSEVEN, exSHATT GLASS) suffered an illness which hindered him from playing. In the year 2005,the band didn't play for one semester. But soon after Paul and Mav decided to form the band again and asked Crissan Betito to play the bass. But later that year Glenn Eroles(guitars) and Walter Bandojo(vocals) left the band. The band finally had their gig in 2006 but didn't have a vocalist at that time. With only one week to go before their gig, they decided to hunt for a new vocalist that has the same course as the other band members, which is where Lois Libo-on comes in.And the name Sweep of Shadows was born from the term "Shadow Sweep". In the band's gigs, they still covered songs from Iron Maiden. They then invited Van Macapagal ( DYING UPON SACRED HANDS, ex-SIXTOSEVEN ) to join their band for rhythm, but he later left due to conflict in schedules. In 2007 after Van left, the band felt inadequate, and decided to make their own compositions and find a keyboardist in replacement of Van.In the conservatory of music, they met Nico Saliva (ex-DREAMS OF FIDELITY) and so made him the band's keyboardist. In 2008 Nico left the band due to his personal reasons. Karlo Ancheta ( PITAKLAN ) replaced him as a guitarist.

Band name: away for the day
Genre: Alt. Metal
site: http://www.myspace.com/awayfortheday

jeric dela cruz: 0922 899 52 93
eros arbilon: 0905 414 31 54

band profile:

Formed in 2005, Away For The Day evolved from teens who want to play the music they listen to serious musicians driven by their passion for music.

Formed by Jericho dela Cruz and Eros Arbilon who both started their musical roots back in the halls of Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong. In 2006, JP Gabutin joined the pack to fill the void for a guitarist. In 2009, JT Abadilla and Jai Castillo, co-alumni of Jericho dela Cruz in JB Music’s MusikHero Music Camp, joined AFTD to provide solid beats and groovy thuds.

AFTD’s music resists a particular tagging to their music. The band experimented with post-grunge, alt. metal and metal core – an experiment that requires a lot of dedication, permissiveness, and ceaseless love for the craft.

AFTD has been in the underground circuit for quite sometime now and has played in different venues around the metro such as Saguijo, 6Underground and MAG:NET High street. AFTD also appeared in RJTV’s Underground Show and guested in UR 105.9 FM.

Taking the cue from Chris Cornell, AFTD’s fire have come and gone, but the riot inside moves on.

Members:
Eros Arbilon – Vocalist
Jericho dela Cruz – Guitars
JP Gabutin – Guitars
JT Abadilla – Drums
Jai Castillo – Bass
