Indie bands going pop-style
« on: April 07, 2016, 10:59:36 AM »
I wandered around QC area and South area to listen and watch gigs and as keen as I am, I have observe the major leap in the indie music scene. A lot of them sounded the same. What are your thoughts about this guys?

madaming magaling na banda ngayon, hindi lang talaga maiiwasan na magkaroon ng magkatunog, lalo na kung pareho sila ng influence

I understand. It only shows na majority ng mga bands have the same influences na.

didn't want to drop names pero the concept are almost the same. they use the dotted 8th delayed guitar riffs all the time. maybe all I'm saying is that a lot are in to ambient -ty type of songs

Damn, millenials, when you say standard indie , do you mean indie as in C86? or the reluctant post punk acts from the 80s? or do you mean the crap they churn out these days?
that's why im saying youre going to the wrong places, ay ewan ko ba, pumatol pa talaga.

Problem yata kasi, yung pagkakaintindi ng mga tao ngayon sa Indie. Di na nagresearch kung ano talaga ang "Indie."

Many kids now (I'm in my late 30s) appreciate pop melodies and sensibilities, I guess especially because some global artists tend to use pop themes in more varied and experimental ways. I actually think it's corny nowadays to be confined in the traditional rock musicality. You'll end up with Nickelback, Creed, David Cook, etc. See how some young people now use time signatures, how they divide up their measures, use unusual chords and intervals, expand to other instruments (e.g., who would have thought the ukelele had a place in bands?) etc... it makes some 90s bands sound like amateur players (I say players because being a songwriter or musician is a different matter altogether).

I also think that deviation/rebellion (of which rock is traditionally a part) is not limited to rock/metal themes anymore. Plus, social media has provided young people non-musical avenues for expression that I guess frees up the angst in the area of music.

Ever since the beginning of indie pop music din naman, nandun na yung pop sensibilities. Panoorin nyo yung BBC Documentary na Music for Misfits: The Story of Indie to learn what "Real" indie music is about. Nowadays kasi, as long as unsigned sa major label ang banda, indie na agad kahit wala nung aesthetic at sensibilities ng indie.

I would love to see this, BBC ang gumawa eh

But if I may ask, what is is the idiosyncratic "indie sensibility" that makes it different from other types of music?
