when i was starting like 1st yr HS the first ever tune i learned is GNR's Patience

then i also had these:

Eric Shenkman - of Spin Doctors sa "pocketful of kryptonite" album, very underrated but a very able guitarist. i love his solos sa two princess, how could you want him, little miss...shinbone alley, etc.

Eric Johnson - the other eric, with manhattan and cliffs of dover
Perf De Castro - 214, awit ng kabataan, and his "Freeman" adventures, the best pinoy guitarist ever for me (just me) 8)
Neil Zaza - i'm alright, every thought of you, journey to texas, etc.
and Minyong's "ang tangi kong pag ibig" kundiman...astig. parang si al di meola na tumugtog ng kundiman  8)
The Cranberrie's "dreams" is a rip off of Sampaguita's "Laguna".....

1. Carlos Santana's Europa. -- Heard it for the first time and it seemed to me that I could follow the notes he was playing. Great tone and excellent control of sustain. I sold my Strat and got myself a Les Paul ( can't find an SG )  in the 70's because of this.

2. Carlos Santana's She's Not There. Liked it so much the song's album-MoonFlower--still has a place in my car's CD rack.

3. The Eagles' One Of These Nights --Beautiful flow of notes you can almost sing it. I still play it in my wam up routine.

4. Steely Dan's Peg. -- I think it was played by Jay Graydon. Excellent choice of notes. Almost makes one familiar with the song to look forward to the solo everytime. But then again, most of Steely Dan's guitar players had that talent.

5. The Beatles' Something -- George Harisson had me the first time I saw him on TV. Always beena big Beatles fan. While I love most of the group's work, the solo on Something speaks loudly on what kind of sensitivity George employed in his playing style.

2.  rm335, smiles and smiles to go, the Lord's prayer - larry carlton
3.  stuff done by paul jackson jr.
4.  catalina kiss, red dust and spanish lace, casino, cool as a rule, ariane, playing for time - acoustic alchemy
5.  for the love of God - steve vai
6.  smells like teen spirit, all apologies, lithium - nirvana
7.  daughter, better man - pearl jam
8.  purple haze, star spangled banner, voodoo child, little wing - jimi hendrix
9.  steve lukather's solo in stop loving you, rosanna - toto

first time i heard these, it made me grateful for taking up the guitar.

Little wing of SRV totally change my life and playing style.... :)

I solemnly agree. Hearing SRV's version really made a huge impact in my playing style. Lalo na yung "instrumental" version nya ng Little Wing. I have different versions of Little Wing done by artists like Pearl Jam, Candle Box and a couple more and even The Corrs. Ha! ...But SRV's is superb.

grabe yung sa bandang last part, yung puro runs nya na very fluid. blues redefined, indeed. :)

Voodoo Chile - Jimi Hendrix
- I really like that part where he plays with the toggle switch while the feedback is going on.

Eruption - Eddie Van Halen
- No explanation necessary.  Holy Marshall Plexis, this blows $*!# off the roof!

Over The Mountain - Randy Rhoads/Ozzy Osbourne
- Another great Marshall Plexi tone and arpeggios up the yin yang.

My Old School - Jay Graydon/Steely Dan
- I enjoy this solo because it seems like the guitar solo and the horns were carrying on a conversation.

Metropolis, Part 1 - John Petrucci/Dream Theater
- Those unison scale runs!  I've never heard anything like it ever.  Okay, maybe if I was older and listend to Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, then that would be the equivalent there.

Only You Can Rock Me - Michael Schenker/UFO
- I'm so in love with the fast scalar triplet runs along the 11th fret.  It comes after the hummable part of the solo.
