for me maturity is when you go in a more technical way of doing music...

i think maturity is not only in the music itself but also to the band members...

example, bagohan palang kayo as a band, so plug and play kau and wala ng adjustments or tuning, isip nu lang makatugtog, bahala na, parang bata ang dating... BUT when u grow mature, namimili na tau ng amps, fine tuning na tau sa effects natin, ung way of composing riffs, lyrics, or drum line pinaplano na talaga... i think u get the point...

and also sa members, mature na din magisip...

metal head kasi ako but ive experienced that... no comment sa jazz pero gusto ko un pang pakalma... :)

about shifting wala naman probs sa maturity, but iiba na naman enviromnment mo kasi from rock to jazz... so adjust ka... meron na bang rock star nag shift into jazz?

rock guitarist reaches a plateu when it becomes very difficult to find the time or energy it takes to get to the next level of guitar playing. his taste changes. he listens to other forms of music. he decides which direction he wants to go: jazz or classical...

(jazz) ...he starts to add chromaticism to his soloing/improvisation. he listens to bebop. he abandons the scalar/modal appraoch. he learns to solo based on the scale where the chord/chord progression can be found. his understanding of jazz becomes more in depth. he starts not to rely on the mechanics of chord scales. he struggles to learn chord-tone soloing. eventually, this approach becomes more natural to him as he develops develops good jazz rhythm (swing feel). he explores other chord voicings. then he starts to enjoy the sound of a good acoustic guitar and an electric guitar plugged directly to a clean amplifier. he develops a strong repertoire of standard tunes. he is now 70 years old.

(classical) OT na  :-D

guthrie govan is not jazz. just wanted to get that off my chest.

agree!
no problem bro, i'm just implying he inputs jazz lines just like Francis M. and other (mainstream) artists do

i beg to disagree  :-D maturity means mas na appreciate mo na yun little nuances, yun mga bata nga ang mahilig sa technical stuff, samantala pag mature na ang isang musician, any genre, may economy and efficiency na ang writing and playing style  :-D and mas meron willingness to connect with people unlike younger musicians who has more tendencies to play what they like at may gung-ho attitude....rock stars to jazz and vice versa, medyo madami, hehehehe, and besides, medyo limiting ang labels, isa nga sa famous disagreements sa music, jack bruce always maintained that isa sa main reason bakit na dissolve ang cream was that clapton viewed the group as a blues rock outfit while bruce and ginger baker always believed that cream was a jazz trio........peace bro  :-D

Parang life cycle kasi ng guitarista yan... Una matutuwa sa shred, galing kasi nakakabilib, then magsasawa and magmemellow down (lalo na yung walang banda), magiging blues then magtry ng solo arrangements, almost jazz na.  Tapos acoustic na.
