Stratman1,
Have you tried the Herbert? How long has it been with you...
I believe there are more overrated NON boutique gear than there are overrated boutique gear.
The only reason some people think there are more overrated boutique gear is because most of the time they can only afford one or two. People tend to lick their wounds because thats all they can afford so most of the time they have to console themselves with what they own. As far as I am concerned, if your whole chain is made of the best gear in the world -- unfortunately most of them are expensive -- it is a magical experience. Based on the track record of the so called boutique gear I have been hearing, its a 80% success rate. By the way, if you dont hear it 8 out of 10 times for boutique stuff, the other parts of your signal chain is surely below the 8 out of 10 times good sounding benchmark.
By the way, I am loosely defining boutique gear as expensive -- waymore so than what people would pay for commercially available accepted brands with endorsements.
Oasgomez,
Somehow I knew your gonna say something about my post, hehe. Don't be so sensitive. Take a chill pill, hehe
I didn't say anything bad about the Herbie. So relax and enjoy this thread
I love hi quality gears same as alot of people here. I agree with you about the good quality of a hi end amp. Hey, you get what you paid for, right? I don't think all boutique gears are overrated. I think the Herbie is. Now that's just my opinion
. Others, like you, will say otherwise. That's fair. To each his own. I like the Herbie... I just don't see the point in paying over inflated price when I can get the sound that I want from a less expensive amp. That's just me.
I can afford to buy more than 2 amps
and I still think Herbie is overrated for my taste. I minimize my amp quantity not because I can't afford more amps but because I have no reason to have them. I play my amp out on gigs and not collect them. If something is not being used for a long time than why keep it?
Oh... BTW... to answer your question. Yes, I tried the Herbert (Geetargeek79's) for approx 3 hours and played other Herbies in different stores countless of times as well as other boutique amps. I still say that Herbert is overrated. O:)
