Hehe. Pangalawa parang ang sarap pumalo pag french grip. American grip is anywhere in the middle of french grip / German Grip... Some uses the traditional grip for better control on ghost notes... Yung drummer ata ng bamboo naka traditional yung lefthand nya.

I play matched, French. I dunno why, but when I first tried to play matched, my thumbs just went on top. It's easier, in a way.  Kakapagod lang nga when you're really laying it in... which is when I go American or German, just to rest.

I also practice with a trad grip, but I can't get enough volume from it.  Stewart Copeland swears by the traditional grip, saying it can produce more volume than matched, given the right technique.  I have yet to find out for myself.

Nice link, autoexec. :)

I've been using for a long time matched grip french. Quite effective for me. I appreciate the link too, thanks! Insightful indeed.

German gamit ko sa hi-hat and snare almost always.

I'm trying to practice traditional grip. Astig tingnan eh, tapos may benefits din siya, pero siguro matched grip ako most of the time kahit na ma-ensayo ko yung trad.

pero may nakita akong video ni Gruber explaining na iisa lang ang concept ng match at traditional, kaya kahit anong gamitin mo, same speed at control din, depends if you do it right. try kong hanapin ulit.  :D

ako, ever since naka american grip. but nung nagkaroon ako ng bali sa left index finger plus medyo hindi nawala yung maga, medyo nahirapan akong mag american grip. so right now, im trying to study the traditional grip. :D

I play matched grip.  For me, it feels more even and symmetric (because both hands utilize the same gripping).  And with practice, I believe one can get both power and finesse through matched grip.

At times I try practicing and playing with traditional grip, though I'm not really that good with it yet.

ME bwahahahaha

but im not really enjoying it now. its too damn confusing man. sometimes you want to do it right lead but your head tells you to do it left lead. my left is more independent and more powerful, can do crazy patterns on the left that i cant on my right. my right is faster and more dynamic, i do straight 16ths better and faster on this hand than my left.

i only found out about this a few months ago at the supermarket while figuring out the latin grooves that sir mar taught me.

i used to write on both left and right hands too (upto grade 3). pero kahit aling kamay gamitin ko, pangit pa rin sulat ko so what's the use? as i grew older, mas naging natural yung pagiging kaliwete ko.

Since karaniwan sa cross-handed playing ang paggamit ng right hand bilang leading hand, mukhang kailangan na left hand ang karaniwang leading hand sa open-handed.

Oo, regular right-handed drumset ang ginagamit.

yup, just made two adjustments. binabaan ko yung hihat ko, 1" higher lang sya sa snare ko para pwede pa rin ako mag crossover. tapos inilipat ko yung 18" china ko sa left side para magsilbing ride din.

one thing i love about this setup is you sound like two drummers playing. do straight 8th or quarters notes using your left hand on the china/ride then syncopate your hihat using your right and use your right also to hit the snare. ala carter beauford kaya lang marami pa kong kakaining bigas

i play and concentrated on match grip american dati.. ive playing with that grip for 5 yrs. tas mei onting attempts na mag trad and have my snare tilted a little forward pero nadiscourage ako kaya balik ulet match grip.. pero this year balik sa trad.. nahirapan ako ng onti pero sinasanay ko na.. nhihirapan akong mag 32nd and rim shot.. kaya im practicing paradiddles that ive never practiced nung nka match ako.. and inadjust ko ung snare height ng 1 1/2 inch higher sa waist level ko.. i found n advantage sa trad grip, it is easier for me to transfer from snare to tom when making a fill.. tska bumaba ang chances ko ng makasira ng stick sa pag hit ng left side crash ko! hehehe.. share ko lng po!

cheers!

Double Strokes...
« Reply #22 on: August 23, 2006, 08:41:08 PM »
Hello Drummers! just a simple question... do u guys play double strokes accenting on the first or second stroke? i watched creative control by thomas lang and he accents on the 2nd stroke. it sounds better when played at a faster tempo.

just wondering if u guys do the same thing... thnks.
