NYC burn victims' attorney demands e-cigarette ban on public transit after exploding products injured his clients

The attorney for two New York City men — who were severely burned by an exploding e-cigarette and a pair of the e-cigarette batteries — wants to ban the smoking devices on public transportation.

Within the last two weeks, Otis Gooding, 31, and Ricardo Jiminez, 24, each suffered second-degree burns to their right hand and right thigh when a device blew up in their pocket.

“Until manufacturers identify and correct the product causing E-cig and their batteries from exploding, I call on Federal, State and local elected officials to ban them from being carried on public transportation, buses and trains as they pose a threat to safety of the public,” said attorney Sanford Rubenstein.

Even Andrew admits this sounds like a hoax, "I would have said 'no way that's possible' until now."

It did a lot of damage. Andrew lost seven teeth, has degree burns to face and neck and has been pulling chunks of plastic, teeth and foreign objects from his mouth, throat and lips. The room he was in when the vaping kit exploded has also suffered serious damage.

Absolutely terrifying! But Andrew says he's doing ok now and he was very lucky and he's slowly healing. He wants to warn people that this can happen - so far no news why it blew up and no e-cigarette companies have commented.

pero nakakabadtrip kasi yung ibang  mga gumagamit ng e-cig sa loob ng jeep o kaya sa loob ng office. para bang komo hindi tunay na cigarette eh binigyan sila ng lisensya para mag-smoke sa ganoong lugar. though hindi nga health risk and vapor ng e-cig, it is still annoying for non-smokers.

Vaping laws are changing next month – this is what you need to know

The new Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 comes into force on Monday, May 20, and introduces a number of rules about the sale of e-cigarettes and e-liquids

Ahead of the changes to the law, the Plymouth Herald spoke to the local Trading Standards who want to make sure that all local manufacturers and retailers are aware of the changes.

Those changes include:

All e-cigarettes and e-liquids must be registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency before they can be sold
Refillable tanks for e-cigarettes must be no bigger than 2ml capacity
E-liquids cannot be sold in quantities greater than 10ml
Unless registered as a medicine the strength of nicotine in an E-liquid must not exceed 20mg/ml
The packaging of E-liquids must be child-resistant and tamper evident
Certain additives such as the stimulants caffeine and taurine or colourings are banned
New labelling requirements
Anyone who does not comply could face imprisonment of up to two years and/or an unlimited fine.

These changes to the law apply to anyone who makes or sells e-cigarettes and e-liquids including those who sell online via social media, auction sites or from their own website.

MANILA, Philippines – A Senate bill seeks to ban the use of electronic cigarettes in schools, government offices, public utility vehicles (PUVs), churches, and hospitals.

Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III filed Senate Bill 1538, seeking to regulate the use and sale of e-cigarettes following President Rodrigo Duterte's nationwide smoking ban, which so far excludes the device.

The measure aims to prohibit indoor use of the product "in places of worship, hospitals or other healthcare centers, public conveyances, government offices, and educational or recreational facilities exclusively intended for minors."

i know its bulky, pero mukang shisha na lang ang papasa pwede sa buong Pilipinas. there was no mention of it in the cigarette ban and the upcoming vape ban.
