hello po mga sir.. Magandang araw po sa inyo.. Gusto ko lang po sana itanong, ano po ang mas ok, Laptop or Desktop for music recording.. Kasi medyo nahahatin ang aking isip, kung magbubuo ba ako ng desktop or hahanap ng good laptop for recording.. Thank you po ^_^

either is fine basta full-fledged yung processor (hindi ARM or Celeron or Atom) at sapat yung RAM (ok na 2GB). ang tanging sasagot ng tanong mo ay kung gusto mo ba maging mobile yung recording gear mo.  :)

DESKTOP PO, reasons

1. It can dissipate heat way more efficiently pag ''under LOAD'' ang CPU  kumpara sa Laptop
2. Mas mura ang RAM sa Desktop, Ideally you need at least 8GB para sa smooth operation ng DAW (although 4GB would seem to suffice)
3. A Desktop has more computing muscle compared to Laptops kasi may thermal restrictions and Laptop, sa Desktop wala
4. PRICE.  Mas mura ang Desktop, pero in the long run if those electricity bill would add up, medyo may kamahalan din, so I would suggest you get a CPU with a 45 Watt TDP like the Intel Pentium G or i3

I just discovered a cool software program called PLURALEYES (Standalone or a plugin for Premiere Pro and final cut pro)
Para sa autosync sa DSLR/video cam/cellphone   at  DAW audio ...very easy to use  :)

Gawd dang, ngayon ko lang nalaman ito  :-D  it literally cut my work into half hahaha  :-D  noon nagpapakahirap akong i-align ang proper syncing ng video at audio meron pa lang program na ganito  LOL

so parang software version siya nito?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clapperboard

i guess pluraleyes would be a godsend for most people.

YES. PRECISELY

Instant clapperboard. No more wave form aligning and all those hassles  :-D

The program is pretty spot on, kahit mahina yung audio pick up ng cam mo

@kennyken

salamat bro, matagal na akong hindi updated sa computer hardware/technology. tatandaan ko nick mo pag may PC-related questions ako.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

share ko lang... i'm a 'ghetto' closet producer (hobby lang)... and by 'ghetto' i mean my PC hardware is always below 'minimum system requirements'. but that is usually solved by using an audio interface. i bet that most people cannot appreciate how an audio interface takes the load off the cpu (if you have a nice pc, you won't feel it).

naka-chika-chika ko yung isang co-contestant sa isang songwriting contest, nagulat siya nung sinabi kong yung pc na ginamit ko sa pag-produce ng demo ay desktop na single core 1.8 ghz with 512 mb ram. he owns a motif rack and other cool stuff... so tumaas talaga mga kilay niya sa gulat.

na-try ko na rin mag-produce using an asus eee-pc netbook (single core, celeron 900 mhz, 512 mb ram, no hard disk). pinaka-challenging na ginawa ko dito ay backing track ng theatrical version ng 'let it go' by idina menzel (shut up, i can probably outshred you --- oops sorry, defense mechanism, hahaha). i had to 'freeze' (cubase speak) a lot of tracks to get this done, otherwise puro dropouts/glitches ang maririnig (or cubase just refuses to play). while i'm not too worried about track count, i have to be very stingy with the number of fx plugins i use.

now this may prove promising for those of you who own half decent computers (or worse)... i can use said netbook for playing live synth and vocals! BUT, i have to use an audio interface. di talaga pwede pag walang audio interface. yamaha xg softsynth has the lowest cpu hit (so okay siya sa akin). tapos, while i'm playing piano, i also sing (when im alone lang)... plugins i use for vocals: gcomp2 (gate, compressor, limiter), kerovee (sintunado kase ako at para feeling t-pain ako), and classic reverb (kjaerhus audio). yep, my lowly netbook can do it real-time with somewhat acceptable latency. i just have to choose the plugins i use (older plugins tend to be less cpu hungry).

for those about to buy a computer, download these:

nasa tamang pili ng plugins, daw, at tamang pagpatay ng tracks at plugins lang ang solusyon sa "budget" recording  nakapagmix na ako sa office computer na ang free disk space sa OS drive ay 200MB lang

medyo split ako kung alin ang mas worse, nagmi-mix sa office o nakiki-torrent sa office... gawain kase ng kuya ko yun. hahaha!

eto pa mas malala... nakagawa ako ng 'album' sa Pentium I (after the 486 processor) using impulse tracker and cool edit. ay shet obvious tuloy ang edad... lol.

ummm...errr... prior to that dumaan din ako sa scream tracker. hindi uso ang multilayer velocities sa trackers, so panay single shot drum samples lang. may cakewalk na nung time na yun pero limited ka sa sounds ng sound module mo which i didnt have (pre-VST technology).

this was at a time na uso pa ang BBS sa pilipinas (bulletin board system) so you can download nude erika eleniak pics using your 14.4k baud rate modem. major LOL!

I got to churn out a Sandwich cover though!

And regarding sa topic about Laptop or Desktop...whatever that is, maganda yung Mac/Macbook Pro...just found out about this feature sa Mac that ables you to use multiple audio interfaces at the same time. Aggregate Device yung tawag...you can look it up. Because of that i am switching systems to Mac.

difference in preference always throws in better ideas to the table!  :) (just imagine how many metal albums would sound much better if other producers had a hand at them )

I haven't actually tried this feature yet, but don't bet your dollar on it if you haven't tried it yet. There may be issues in word clock (especially kung walang word clock ports yung interface) and latency, especially when using different interfaces.
