Title: Different genres of Rock?

Di ko sila gets, any one care to explain? Alt rock, rock and roll, metal.. are they not all just rock and roll? Thanks!

One cannot simply tell that this is Rock and Roll and that is [gooey brown stuff]. It should be extravagant like this is rock and roll and this is Glam Rock(its rock and roll with spandex and hair sprays). I guess there really is no need to understand these classification leave it to the historians.  :cool:

Agreed.. but why do some correct me for calling Green Day a rock and roll band? Haha.

because they're more punk than pure rock and roll.

whatever that means. Lol. Things like this are always subjective. It's not like there's a genre deciding committee that formally documents bands.
