Relic Squier???
« on: March 08, 2006, 11:41:16 AM »
What's the deal with this guitar? Is there really a "relic squier"? And "it's made to look old but it's not", but to me, it looks like it beaten up pretty bad...

alam ko yan yung sa buyandsellplus? ganda nyan pre eh. that strat is a squier standard series. i saw some guitars like that on perfect pitch siguro mga 1 or 2 years ago. ganda pre. so siguro ang ginawa nung owner, pina-relic nya (dunno kung kanino) to copy the SRV signature strat. yup, it's really made to look old but it's not, hehe. parang inexpedite lang ang pag-age nya by sanding, beating it up in a controlled manner, hehe. ganon. pero i think performance wise, the guitar is still good. ag-inquire nga ako jan eh, i really like it. pero wala lang dough... hehe

Ah may ganun pala tlga.. So i guess my rj strat is also a "relic" coz it has my bite marks and stuff. I dunno, but im not particularly fond of beaten up sunburst strat. IMO, a beaten up white/cream strat looks better. Just like the one Malmsteen has.

Are Indonesian Squier solid bodies?

bite marks dude? hehe serious? what's your rj strat? i'm looking for one kasi eh, hehe. yup a cream strat looks nice relic-ed, hehe. i have one, mala-malmsteen nga, hehe. it's an mik squier, pero hindi sha solidbody, hehe. i think the indonesian squiers, since they're mostly the standard series squiers, have solidbodies. pero it varies parin shempre not necessarily where it's made but in the series of the squier. squier bullet series guitars have a laminated body, affinity series squiers have solid bodies (agathis i think), standard series squiers have solid bodies (basswood ata or agathis din), and the strat paks have laminated bodies.

Yea bite marks sa sobrang inis ko di ko makuha yung speed picking ni Paul Gilbert back in college. Hehe.. Actually my rj strat is pretty good, considering i got it for only 3k back in '96. Im not sure lang if its solid body but its darn heavy. May only complain is the fretwires, they're kinda small for my taste. Ano naman ggawin mo sa rj strat?

My rj strat is over at my friend's place. I'll take pics of it this weekend. What's a darkwood/lightwood? Medyo frankenstein na strat ko. I sawed off the bridge pup hole so that a humbucker can fit into it. And the humbucker is suppose to be a Dimarzio Super Distortion sold to me by a college buddy way back, parang linoko nga lang ako coz it looks really cheapo. Got it for 1k. And naka ground cya sa bridge, so when you take your hands of the bridge, you'll hear a loud hum. :D

Im thinkin of restoring it someday when i have the cash. But im not sure if its worth restoring..

ayt, hehe. the darkwood/lightwood strat is made of, yeah you guessed it, a dark variety of wood, i think mahogany for the dark wood, and a light variety of wood, i think pine, for the lightwood. natural finish sha so maganda, pero ang ayoko lang eh, kung ano yung body wood, yun din yung neck wood nya, hehe. eh i'm not so fond of dark strat necks and headstocks, hehe. so yun, kung meron meron nun dito, pa PM nalang, hehe. sige thanks!

remove the back plate. tapos check mo kung may layers yung cross section ng wood. biting into it is another way, hehe pero you'd have to take a big bite out of it, hehe.

Relics..

Kind of reminds me of the first time I saw the Jaco model from Fender at Guitar center. All banged up with some paint chipped of. I thought I was looking at a pre-owned unit but the sales guy told me it was brand new and that it was patterned after Jaco's own bass.

Told me of Fender's Relic, Closet and NOS series. :D

yep, think of it as yung Grahams na masarap. yung kayang gawin ng hipag co.:)

pag layered sha ng ganun, laminated yan. pag puro (imagine chopping a whole block of wood and shaping it like a guitar), solid body.

natutunan co from whoelse pa ba? pareng kulas. thanks! ;)
