just checked the asus website and it can support up to an athlon x2 (939) 4800 or a opteron dual core 185 subject to the bios version of your motherboard. the latest version is 503.

now as to whether you can get any of these processors, that is another matter.

thanks for that info!

i found an athlon x2 4800 dual core box in the pcexpress website. i hope they have stocks.

UPDATE:

i just found out that my mobo only supports DDR, curse the light.

im now gearing towards upgrading my motherboard, my processor and my RAM.

my reason for the upgrade is not gaming; im using programs such as 3D Studio Max, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, among others. however, my main goal is to improve rendering times (decrease it) in 3D rendering programs and i've researched that a dual core can achieve that.

now im not sure whether to go Intel or stay with AMD. perhaps my main consideration is cost.

another thing, i've just recently bought an Nvidia GF6800GS 128mb AGP video card (since my present mobo only supported AGP), and i don't want to replace it since video cards are expensive. can AGP still be supported by the latest mobos (those who are already supporting PCI-Express slots)?

please, if you have any suggestions, kindly help. thanks a lot!

Are you sure about this? Their site only lists a 3000+ 939.

If you can find one, let me know too. I'd even settle for an Opteron 185.

it's listed under the socket AM2. but the ASUS link said that the model supported socket 939, and i'm more inclined to believing the ASUS site rather than pcx.

pcx lists the 4800+ X2 under AM2, not 939. All pc vendors now only stock AM2 cpus which is incompatible with your mobo. The only online retailers I've seen with 939 X2 are newegg.com and tigerdirect.com

If you want to look for 939 cpus locally (secondhand), try tipidpc.com

^^ oo nga noh, eh yung +3000 yung processor ko ngayon, so un-upgradeable na pala talaga.

anyway, i've chosen to upgrade my motherboard to one that can support dual core processors but still support AGP graphics.

i've also chosen to upgrade to an Athlon 64 X2 5200.

my only problem is the memory since i know little about it.

eto yung napili kong motherboard. http://www.superwarehouse.com/MSI_K9MM-V_Motherboard/K9MM-V/ps/1495322

kasi anjan yung kailangan mainly Dual Core Support, AGP slot, at DDR2 slots 2GB max.

i was told na magandang brand din ang MSI.

question lang, ano yung meaning nung "Supported RAM Speed    PC2-4300, PC2-6400, PC2-5300" eh mga 3 digit speeds lang yung nakikita ko sa mga DDR2...?

MSI, ASUS, ASrock, Abit, Gigabyte are major brands.

the model you stated is a mid level model.
anyway ganito ata yung sa memory:
good old 266 memory becomes 533, 333 becomes 667, and 400 becomes 800 > DDR2 memory.

....hmmmm agp slot.... (does not want to part with Nvidia GF6800GS 128mb AGP video card... not good)... do more research... don't jump in just yet....

actually sa AM2 platform mas mura pa ang DDR2 saka PCIe graphics card... then again I don't know anything... he he

actually i know that buying a mobo that only has an AGP expansion slot is another bottleneck altogether since fewer and fewer AGP models are getting released (meron pa ba?)

but i'm really reluctant to part with it since it's almost new and it cost around 7k, which i will practically throw away once i buy a mobo with PCI-E expansion slot.

going Intel is no option, since i still haven't found mobos that support INTEL C2D, AGP, and DDR2.

kung mga rendering mataas na ram at dual core na processor makakakita ka ng malaking pag kakaiba kesa sa ram lang ang upupgrade mo.

Motherboard-processor-ram the best possible upgrade.

You could always sell the vidcard at TPC... there are still takers.

i know. since my last posting i've been extensively researching about my options. and my decision has changed.

i've decided to go for the best bang for the buck deal: a high end mobo, low end or middle range INTEL dual core, two 1gb 800 corsairs, and whatever video card i can get for 3k.

im going to have my mobo overclock the processor.

i'm going to have to sell that agp video card, and yes i think i can still salvage around 1.5k-2k from it in tipidpc.

bakit mo ooverclock? mukhang mas magiging magastus pag ni overclock mo kasi kailangan mo ng magandang cooling system may possiblities pa na mag freeze and PC mo dring rendering.

yeah those are the kinds of issues that i'm really worrying about, pero my friend who offered to do it reassured me that there are already presets for OCing our selected CPU which would give us a rock steady speed and temp.

I've seen a 2 ghz cpu oc'd to 3+ ghz with regular air cooling. I regularly ran my old 1433 mhz Athlon 1700+ Thoroughbred at 1800mhz (roughly 2100+) with plain air cooling (although the 'take Volcano's whine was irritatingly loud - could have gone higher with a better HSF or water). Some modern cpus allow you to overclock substantially without even having to tweak voltages. You don't even need water cooling just to overclock, just use the right components - I'm running my mems at 500 mhz right now using specified voltage for XMS memory! Don't diss something you are not familiar with.

Athlon X2 4800+ Socket 939 Toledo Pre-sell 6k

Planning to shift to Core 2 Duo kaya pre-sell ko muna itong processor ko na classic meaning tentative pa pag natuloy ang upgrade ko.

Athlon X2 4800+ 2.4 ghz 1 mb Toledo Socket 939

Processor only no heatsink fan. Will provide 3 days testing warranty enough test if the unit is 100% working. Overclocking voids the personal warranty. Rare item.

Note: I have the right to choose the buyer and the customer is not always right. Thanks for looking!^_^

6k is kinda pricey... fyi lang he he...

okay, i have to admit that i've never replaced a processor by my own so im not confident enough to laugh about the pic. hehe

anyway, yes, i'm decided to go Intel and OC it. but i'd probably still wait until the summer, baka bumaba pa price. hehe
