Yupangco Music Corporation and YAMAHA Corporation, Japan, again brings one of the most popular drummers in the Philippines. Kozo Suganuma, is set for an electronic drum clinic this coming March 7, 2007, 4:30 p.m. at Conference Halls A & B of SM City Cebu and on March 8, 2007, 5:00 p.m. at the Main Showroom, Yupangco Building, 339 Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Makati City.

Kozo is a native of Osaka, Japan and began playing drums at the age of eight. He remarkably became a professional session player at the tender age of fifteen. Since then, Kozo Suganuma has become a major feature in the Japanese pop scene and has released numerous CDs and instructional videos. With his busy schedule, he still fits in managing his Kozo Suganuma Drum Dojo in seven places in Japan. He has performed with internationally renowned artists like Larry Graham, Louis Johnson, Alphonso Johnson, Othello Moleneaux, the Jaco Pastorius Orchestra, Earth Wind & Fire, etc. He also participated in the YAMAHA Drummer’s Camp along with Dave Weckl, Tommy Aldridge, John Robinson, Leon Chancler, Terry Lyne Carrington, Steve Jordan, Alex Acuña and Gerry Brown to teach young drummers. Kozo is also an active clinician and has done clinics for YAMAHA in different parts of the world.

On March 7 and 8, Kozo would perform on the latest YAMAHA Electronic Drum Kit and would show Filipinos the advantage of using the digital drum set. Kozo will explore the authentic sound, playability and rich expression of the YAMAHA DTXPRESS IV. This would be an experience for those who shy away from the digital technology.

In case some of you guys want to recall or do not know who Kozo is, he's the Japanese drummer who did a drum clinic for Zildjian Day Manila a few years ago (in 2002, I believe).

I already sent my contact details to Sir Tom . I'm hoping that he already got it. I don't wanna miss this clinic because I'm quite interested in applying electronics to my drumming someday.

I was there at that Zildjian Day clinic with Kozo. This was the one in SM Megamall. I must say I never heard of him before but he was lots of fun (he kind of looked like Mike Egar) and it was well attended. I think he was the guy who incorporated OPM in his exhibitions (he played along to TORPE by Hungry Young Poets).
