Title: Drummer Complaint Thread

For you guitarists, bassists, vocalists, etc out there who are in a band..

..what are your complaints about your current drummer?

Please expound.

No need to give names; I am after the common mistakes that drummers commit in a band and maybe through this thread we can realize and improve.

(Ex. "Malakas masyado pumalo", "masyado madaming fills" etc.)

i have a good drummer right now but my no. 1 complaint is his lack of focus but once he overcomes this one all the other glitches in his playing will disappear as well

I have a complain about myself....

Kung masyado na akong pumped up sa groove, may tendency na bumilis ang pitik ng mind metronome ko. Buti na lang our bassist is there to assist me.

One more thing, masyado akong nerbyoso sa mga new songs and requests. I need to have more confidence....

If it is a complaint against yourself I think it should be in the "Drumming Frustrations" thread.

This one is specified for the outside perspective of the drummer so it can help us improve. :wink:

pansin ko lang in general...

during rehearsals, nagprapractice ng fill or groove yung drummer pagkatapos ng bawat kanta (ginagawa rin to madalas ng mga gitarista). sana wag. makinig muna sa mga pag uusapan ng mga kabanda para magkarinigan at magkaintindihan  :-D

at may mga drummer din na sumusugod na kagad sa mga fills, kahit hindi pa sila sanay sa groove..


laging tandaan...groove muna bago fill  :wink:

drummer namin... either sobrang fills or walang fills,
kailangan nya ng metronome, sobrang iba iba timing nya na dapat kung 1/4 1/4 sa kanya 1/4 bumibilis bumabagal.. basta eneven...
tapos pumapalo siya ng magkaibang sticks... diba pag ganun di pantay ang palo?... basta childish ang dating.. haha... yun...

ako naman, ok sa practice, sa gig bumilis ang tempo haha, di ko talaga napansin na mabilis pala kami hahaha...

tempo. tempo. tempo.

isang malaking problema ito. lalo na pag live performance where the adrenaline is kicking in and the heart beating faster. napansin ko sa sarili ko at sa ibang drummers, yung tempo ng isang kanta sa rehearsals nag-iiba na pagdating sa mismong performance.

hinga lang ng malalim and concentrate, focus. wag masyado ma-excite.

1.) time - it either speeds up or slows down.

2.) fills - its either too much, too little, or its an overused pattern.

3.) sequence memorization - especially if the song isnt verse chorus verse.

4.) drum sticks - he uses 'toothpicks' as sticks to save money, and the performance suffers.

5.) practicing only when there is band rehearsal.

6.) not contributing ideas to the song writing process.

7.) inability to jam outside the genre of music the band is playing.

it helps me. ako kahit practice palang, may complain na yung mga kachurchmates ko. pero ngayon ay wala na dahil yung mga reklamo at naging lakas ko. hehe

tama! dapat ang mga complain ay maging kalakasan natin!
yun lang po. tambool lang

hehe..for our drummer, hmmm let's see - i guess he doesn't have anything aside from playing (showmanship) ..well, he's really good but the thing is when you play live at least show something that's really nice to see..i'm not saying that you should be hyperactive on stage or do those stuffs that mike portnoy is doed..at least be creative and show everyone that drummers are not band extenders

to paraphrase the greats, "tricks are great as long as they don't get in the way of your playing."

siguro hindi lang talaga kaya ng drummer niyo mag tricks, at ang main focus niya groove lang. or maybe applying tricks in your band's genre of music is too difficuilt (timing issues, speed issues).

saka kung hindi man kaya ng drummer niyo magtricks, siguro naman sapat na yung stage moves ng mga gitarista at vocalist. hindi rin naman masyadong kita yung drummer e.

imho, if i wanted to see someone doing stick tricks, i'd hire a monkey, not drummer. mas gusto kong manuod ng bandang solid, hindi drummer na juggler. hehe.

PS. ano pong ibig sabihin ng "mike portnoy is doed"?

Malakas pumalo, puro stick twirling, atbp... mga sir ok lang po ba simple yung fill kasi paulit-ulit minsan yung fills ko... ahhhhhhh! help! GOD BLESS!
