I don't care whether it is a $2500 John Suhr or a highly modified Squier that cost you less than P20,000.
The idea of this thread is to know if you think if you had more money, would you probably be ditching your main axe now hoping for something better? Of course if you smoke through your Squier Strat now, chances are you would smoke more on a Suhr Strat. But that is not the point. By your standards, do you find your main axe perfect for your needs?
-
yes. i find my les paul perfect. my ibanez rg7's almost perfect, except for the TRS trem.. but i don't use it anyway.. so ok lang naman.

i fall under the under 20k Squire strat. But damn do i love it? heck yeah!!! i was using an rj ventures for almost 8 years before i acquired a 2nd hand squire strat.

Just got my r9, she has been only w/ me for about 2hrs... looks perferct, weighs less than my r8, acoustically it sings and it smells perfect too... cant wait to plug her tomorrow... :D

do you also have an r7 goldie?
-
nope but i have a goldie r4.... r7s are the same as r8s, malaki ang neck.... if ever ill buy another historic lp, malamang 54' or 57' all mahogany black beauty na.... matagal tagal pa yun

Buti sayo "matagal" pa. Sa akin FOREVER. Hehehe. I just thought R7's could be better alternatives to R8s and R9s because they are cheaper. (Not really cheap but less expensive.)
-
R7s are great... pero halos kapresyo na niya yun mga plaintop r8s... i think the plain jane r8s are 150-300 bucks more expensive lang... yun r9s halos doble ang presyo.... but the new r7s are a bit heavy its already rare to find one below 9.5lbs.... but still lighter than the average usa stds kahit may 9 wt relef holes pa yun std or classic... :D

Honestly, I would rather go for a plaintop lemonburst or unburst (or anything that looks like it) over a AAAA flametop R9. That is because I miss my '76 LP. Si Tom kasi eh... :( :( :( :( :(
But the '76 really made me want a '50s design LP.

IMO, there is no "perfect guitar" for anyone. Even some of the guitar greats have multiple guitars that they use. But sometimes I force myself to think that what I have is the "perfect" guitar coz otherwise I'd never stop wanting something else.
I would love to have lots of different LPs like Farseer or a bunch of different PRS guitars, But realistically, I cannot justify spending so much money on a particular guitar considering that I don't think it would improve my playing if I do buy them.
As to whether I'm happy with what I have, for sure. And I think that's what's most important. :)

i think i saw that one... yan yun parang greco ang shape ng headstock... its light burst di ba??? i had 3 gibson lespauls from the 70s... never liked any of them... mabigat at di resonant.... but im sure there are some good lespauls from that era, mas bihira nga lang :D
ever since i saw mels r8, na hypnotize na ako ng mga flame top... mas trip ko yun di ganun ka perfect- old looking tops :D

Mine was modded. If you are referring to the one with a 3-pc top, lightburst, with Kluson tuners, small headstock, then that's the one. It sounded more '50s than most modern LPs, hence I miss it.

I don't have a main guitar. I use several guitars for different tones that I wanted to hear. Having one main guitar would limit my playing. :)

Congrats Doc Dave! Pahawak naman niyang guitar mo. He! He! He!
-
all my guitars are scarred or handicapped in some ways but i love em all 8)
-
i dont have a main guitar as well - it all depends on what sound I need at the moment. If its just for practicing then I grab the easiest guitar to get to if something is outside of its case at the moment.
More often than not though, I use acoustics over my electrics for practicing which are my 2 Alvarez Yairi, a DY62 and a WY1.
-
for my needs, yes. its simple, sounds good, stays in tune and can take a beating. thats why my backup is another tele. and if i had money to burn, i'd probably get another tele but drop in different (hotter maybe) pickups. backup for the backup.
-
Basta it has the right feel and the type of music applied. I only have 2 guitars right now, the Yamaha SA2000 has good ballsy sound while the Guya has a brighter sound. I use my guya for acoustic jams or some jazz sounding music jams it has a nice resonance and feel, the SA is my main axe for driven sounds.

i don't think i have one main guitar. what i try to keep is one of each of the "food groups" -- strat, tele, LP, semi-hollow (+ acoustic, resonator... i also want a pedal/lap steel, btw. :-). as abyss said, we like them for different reasons and applicatons. one is not better than the other, just different.
none of them are perfect, if there is even such a thing. but there are indeed a lot of better gtrs out there. so, to answer your question, yes, i would ditch my 'main' gtr in each "food group" if i had money to buy something better. heck, i've ditched gtrs for more mundane reasons (eg, "research", "not having settled on my sense of taste", etc.).
-
it's perfect as of this moment, until i discover a better tone from another guitar of the same model.
-
as far as electric guitars are concerned, i'm happy with what i've got. that's all that matters to me.
-
nah, nothing's perfect... i think we'll always say "ay sana ganito"... ang importante masaya...
-

bakit laging "she" ang guitar? bakit hindi "he"? sabagay, strange naman kung sabihin natin na "i love my guitar" tapos "he" ang guitar...
so dumating na! exciting 'no? is "she" all that you expected "her" to be?
-
eh sir Al maganda naman talaga yang guitar mo eh. iba talaga custom made especially if you know what you want. Nice guitar!
-

i've been playing lighter tunes lately, and my 50th anniv Strat delivers the goods. i've been a whammy bar guy since before and my other guitar with a Floyd Rose is still "under the knife," so i guess i'd have to maximize what my current main axe has to offer for now. but to answer this thread's question, my answer is no because every guitar has characteristics that are unique and may be more useful for certain tonal/functional needs. but i'm happy with my guitar for now :)
-
oops sorry, double post..

yes. but I want another sound...I can get that sound from another axe...so I want to buy another axe.
-
may Variax users ba dito? kuhang kuha nga ba talaga yung sound ng mga guitars that it's supposed to model?
-
going back to the question... "Is your main guitar perfect?" no...
coz someone else's guitar will always gonna sound & look better... :(

Wife: Oh, ano naman yang bagong binili mo?
Me: Naku, it na ang pinaka ultimate na guitar, hon. Hard to find ito, rare. It does everything and sounds the best of all guitars!
6 months later...

Wife: Eh, yan din sinabi mo dati e. Akala ko ba the ultimate guitar na yung binili mong huli?
Me: Well, it was until I found out about this guitar! :-)
Lesson: The best guitar is your next one.

what's up with women always having something against our guitars? kahit gf ko e, tawag sa mga guitar ko mga kabit e hehehe
-
Perfect??.. Pwede.. I really don't have a main guitar lang.. but i have different guitars for different sounds.. But i think my fender am tele is perfect for it's purpose.. :) though i'd like to have a gibson lp..
-
hehehehe ako binili nya ng EVH wolfgang nung isang pasko! hahahaha! nung birthday ko naman eh dimarzio PAF pro! itong nakaraang pasko eh ext cab ng amp ko!
swerte :D
-
what's up with women always having something against our guitars? kahit gf ko e, tawag sa mga guitar ko mga kabit e hehehe
siguro naiinis lang, kasi everytime we buy, we justify it saying- its the ultimate guitar for me.... the first time i said that was when i bought a 90's gibson lp std, then i upgraded to a classic plus then a classic premium plus... i never thought id be able to afford historics then kaya ayus na yun.... last time i said the ultimate word was when i purchased my friends flamed r8... after several months i was gassing for an r9.... sabi ko wala na tong katapusan... my perception that the guitar is "perfect" doesnt last that long- too bad
-
i only have one acoustic guitar,, im not really satisfied with it.. its not perfect.. maybe i cant have a good guitar because i dont have good budget,, argh! factor talaga ang pera..
-
what's up with women always having something against our guitars? kahit gf ko e, tawag sa mga guitar ko mga kabit e hehehe
hehe... whenever I arrive home carrying a new guitar and my wife complains that I have too many... I always say:
I would rather have 1 wife and 6 guitars rather than 6 wives and 1 guitar.
OR
pagbigyan mo na ko at ang hilig ko is guitars, mas sakit sa ulo e kung babae ang hilig ko...
so far I seem to get away with this type of reasoning. hehe. Another thing I so when I have new is gear is to involve the Misis in the testing process...I will A/B gears and guitars for her, ipaparinig ko yung differences between each gear, and then she will be enlightened.
i have some strats, an ibanez RG and an acoustic ...everything in between is covered by my Variax...so enough na ko sa guitar side, i also have a versatile amp(mabigat nga lang)...right now im pedal-shopping.
-
well i have two main guitars, a fender strat and a jasmine acoustic/
so far i'm satisfied naman with the performance of my guitars. what i'm not satisfied with is my performance, hehe.
the strat gives me all sorts of sounds, from church clean, to blues dirt, to grungy sounds (which i like, hehe. pearl jam boy ako eh, hehe)
the acoustic naman allows me to take my music wherever i want. and has the loudness and boom to "make lunod" my voice, hehe. lalo na pag may sabit ako, hehe. and you can plug it in and rock out, hehe.
i can't say they're perfect, but they're just right for me, hehe.
-
Sabi ko noon "ahhh eto na pang habambuhay..."
...kaso hindi pa pala.ehehe Ayoko ko na ulet magsalita ng tapos.eheh
My guitars ain't perfect pero it satisfies my necessities in the meantime.
