i have an aging tweed amp which produce a crackling noise when levels reach 35% up. I had it checked by a tech and he told me to get my tubes checked if its still ok. i have'nt been able to this yet but if ever the tubes werent okay, where can i buy them (here in the phil) and for how much? tnx!

check the glow of the tubes - if they glow orange, then they may still have some life in them. however, if they are glowing blue - they need to be replaced.

tnx for the info! well, it still glow orange. i guess they're still ok. any ideas about the crackling sound?

you might have some dirty sockets or pots. dirt can wreak havoc on amp connections. have the amp checked to see if anything needs to be replaced.

hmmm... you said "aging". Time to get rid of them old tubes.

I'm not sure if tubes can still be found in raon, I understand that the issue with some el cheapo tubes is finding a matched pair.

You should try audiophile, last i looked they had tubes, and check with the high-end audio shops at park square that sell hi-fi tube amps.

Or, pm deltaslim, he used to sell lotsa tubes.
