Sa DJ's Bibingkahan sa West Covina.
Seriously, kayong bahala. I'm sure mapapahiya lang ako pero what the hey, haha! Meeting you guys would be very cool.
Batang New Jersey ako talaga.

SUGGESTIONS???

stratman,
Ako din yung Bart, bro. Taga Union, New Jersey kami nung early years. Then lumipat kami ni Misis sa Chatham, NJ. Ayoko dun, puro hielo pag winter. Nakakabato.
I'll see what I can find around Rancho Cucamonga, Alta Loma, or Ontario.

Isa sa pinaka tahimik na lugar ito ng L.A. suburbs (Actually, San Bernardino ang county namin). 30 minutes na lang ito from W. Covina from the 10 East, North 57 and 210 East Freeways.

No, not really.  I was there last May 2005, on official business. Otherwise, i don't have that kind of money to go there for pleasure.  Kung meron man, magbo-Boracay na lang ako!  8)

Stratman, can you check the schedule sa North Hollywood and Van Nuys kung may nagrenta na ba sa pinkaliit nilang studio for next Saturday?..kailangan bang magpareserve? ano ang minimum hours? pwede bang magdala ng pagkain sa loob.

....I only talked to Bart....so it's me Bart then ikaw...so parang G3 in San Fernando Valley. hehehe.
Title: Pinoy Guitarist EB sa CA USA
Post by: stratman1 on January 05, 2006, 11:15:34 AM
VAN NUYS = 15'x20' = $18/ hour. Block of 3 hours
NOHO = 10'X12' = $16/ HOUR. Block of 3 hours.
Different places different sizes, different prices. What time do you guys want to get together? Can't schedule until we give them the time.

Smoking and drinking are not allowed inside. I guess we can bring some nick-nacks (chips, sodas, pandesal and STAR-MARGARINE, hehe) as long as we don't bring a whole feast (lechon is out of the question). We also have to clean up, of course, that goes without saying. We can just hide them in a bag. No one will know.

Backliners are available but feel free to bring your goodies. Backliners are crap there anyways. Mostly broken or dying amps so I suggest you bring your stuff.

Since it's just the 3 of us are we gonna have a BT to play with?
Title: Pinoy Guitarist EB sa CA USA
Post by: Phil on January 05, 2006, 12:09:10 PM
sayang walang bahista at drummer...di ba may drums tapos bass amp kasali sa rent?...what do you mean by backliners? Block of 3 hours....you mean minimum of 3 hours? so tig 1 hour each tayo.

I'm bringing two of my tube amps so okay din.

Stratman...which branch would be good ?...since you are giggin musician?
.....star margarine...thats funny....star rice is the best....pweh!!!!
Title: Pinoy Guitarist EB sa CA USA
Post by: stratman1 on January 05, 2006, 12:57:33 PM
Backliner means amps and drums ( 1 or 2 gtr amps, 1 bass amp, and 1 drums set ). Yup! Kasama na sa renta yon.

Yup! Block of 3 hours means minimum of 3 hours.

2 tube amps, man! That's great! What are your amps? Ako Fender Champ 12 tube amp lang, eh.

I've used the NOHO a couple of times in the past but have never been in the Van Nuys facility. I think NOHO is fine. Nice place. And since it's just the 3 of us, I guess the smallest room would be fine for us.

SWEET!!! Can you say "VAI"!!! Hahaha!!! That's cool! You should get a Carvin/Ibanez endorsement deal. What mod did your MTS3212? Who did it?

Is that a THD hotplate on top of the Legacy? Oh-oh, no castors, Tsk-tsk. Don't worry, I'll help you with carrying.

I used to have an X100B 1/2 stack with matching pair of their 2x12 cabs loaded with the 12" 100 watter British series speakers. That baby rocked! I also owned it's little brother, X60 combo. That was a great little amp, too. Used it alot with my (dare I say) disco/dance, yikes! Anyways, I still like the dirt channel of the X100B. Not too gainy but qith enough power. Boss OD-1 in front, that thing kranks like a mother f---er.

Can't wait to see you there. By the way, coordinate with BP what time you guys want to do this so I can set this up.

I changed all the power and preamp tubes and speakers......naka JJs 6L6GC tapos high gain preamp tubes.....the stock speakers were decent ....but I just love warm and fat tones...so I changed it to Celestion Vintage 30s taken from a Mesa 4x12 cab.......I can bring extra EL34s just in case you guys want to change the tone...if it's to bright for you and all.

Yes...a THD Hotplate...1 or 2 lang volume sa mga amps masakit na sa tenga....thats why I bought an attenuator....I also have a custom one on top of the other amp and it works really well.

okay....I heard a lot about that X100B amp...sabi nila kayang kaya ang heavy metal tone....well Vai used it sa movie Crossroads.

I'll e-mail Bart about what time.....I'll keep you informed. :D

You might want to watch out for that hotplate. They didn't call it HOTPLATE for nothing. I hear it can shorten the lifespan of your tubes. But hey, that's a small sacrifice for a great tone. Plus, It's not that hard to grab them JJ's here anyway.

Yeah, let me know what time you guys want to set it up. Later!

That's oks. Ako nga 12 watts Fender lang, eh. Kaya yan, hahaha!!! Hehe. Worst comes to worst meron naman silang gamit  doon kasama sa rentals. Not the best but loud enough to be heard.

Yes, Phil. BT can be hooked up through their P.A.

That's a good idea. I need to try out both your equipments. The only time I can get my hands on some good quality gear is when I when I'm at Guitar Center doing my window shopping, hehe. Even then, I get shy in picking up the expensive stuffs because I can't play as good as the 12 y/o guitar phenom that's always hanging around the store,

Like what I mentioned to Phil before, if you guys want to, I think I can get us a place to jam for free. I might even be able to throw in a drummer, bass, and keyboard players along the deal. The only thing is that the place is in Long Beach. If you guys are up for the drive than that can be arranged. If you guys don't want to Sound Arena is fine with me too. Just thought I'd give you guys the options. Let me know what ya'll thunk, hehe.

next time na lang ang Long Beach...I just recently went there...sa Aquarium of the Pacific...ganda ng area dun. You've been there Bart?

so paano ba ang BT?.....should I burn my BT MP3s and bring it? who has a MP3 player para maconnect sa PA? I don't have a MP3 player kasi ...Strat?

By the way. Phil, you think you can burn some BT's without the bass track? Since were all playing guitar I thought might as well bring my bass and smack it a coulple of times along with your BTs. Just to add flavor to our jam.

Also, I was just at the Carvin Holly store this afternoon. Tried out their new V3 amp with their CT model guitar. Man, that amp smokes! 3 channel alll tube amp with enough gain to blow your mind away. Midi capable switching too. Very flexible. I believe this is their take to MESA's RECTI-FRYER. Very good amp. Unfortunatelly, still doesn't sound like a rectifier. But then again, that's why they call it Carvin V3 and Mesa Rectifier copy. Becasue it's a different amp. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Another thing that attracted me to this amp is the price. $899 for the head. Damn! Almost 1/2 the price of a Rectifier. I would've gone home with this amp today. Then as I opened my walet to get my card I saw my wife's picture and FEAR stucked me like thunderbolt right down my spine. Ran out of that store as fast as I could and never looked back since, HAHAHA!!!

Stratman....I am trying to sell my other amp to get that head.....you know I am a Carvin addict.....in the future I will get my own custom CT6M or a DC400 made according to my specs.....haaaay.

Reserve the smallest one....G3 lang tayo eh.

kita kita tayo sa DJ Bibingkahan sa Panorama City near Van Nuys Bldvd and Roscoe.....mga 9:30 to 10 AM.

We'll meet there so we can eat almusal a talk...then around 11:30 we can drive towards Sound Arena.

okay guys? I'll PM you my cell phone...

yes, we thought about it before pero mas madali dito sa texas.  we don't have state tax so federal lang ang binabawas sa suweldo.  and mahal nga bahay diyan... what you pay for a "normal" house over there would get you a big house over here.  pero siyempre, matindi nga naman ang lifestyle diyan... daming gimmick.  it's all about the trade-offs.  for now, habang bata pa pamilya ko, we've decided to stay here para maka-ipon.

Not just housing. Gas prices fluctuates like crazy here, too. Don't know if that's the case with other states.

that is why ...the pinoys who were here first and bought houses are so lucky....I live in a townhouse and maybe if the house prices drop...I'm gonna get a real house .....so I can have my own recording studio.

I heard it's really cheap there in other states...but I like it here....if I feel like I wanna be in the Philippines...I just go to a the San Fernando valley and be with all the pinoys eating pinoy food.

i always enjoy myself when i go there, para ka rin talagang nasa pinas, with less poverty. yun nga lang, super mahal ng housing, everything is cheap except rent and/or real estate...

The front & back yard each has a square footage as that of the house itself.
Going back to the EB, kelan na talaga ang sigurado? Phil, you still have to email me the BT we're going to use. Thanks.

10K for a 190K house ...insane.....patay ka dyan sa property tax.....kaya pala walang state tax.

Paint striper. Apply, scrape, a sand. Be carefull for most, if not all, of these chemicals are very toxic. Well ventilated workspace, face mask and eye goggles are suggested. Mask and goggles have to be specifically made for chemical use. You can get all these at OSH or HOME DEPOT. You will also need an old long sleeve shirt to protect your arms from accidental splashes of the chemical. This is the fastest way I did my stripping when I re-finish a guitar. If this doesn't work than you can always rough it out and just use the coarsest sand paper that you can get.

Is this your son's black strat? That's cool! Are you going for the red color? Are you using water based or oil based paints? I used to do that with my guitars. Stains, burst, and solid finishes. Very streneous and taxing job but very fulfilling at the end.

Dan...I think I'll just go with the #60 then move up to 100......I'm too clumsy to handle toxic stuff especially at home.

I'm working on my one and only (first) electric guitar that made me come back to playing.....a modded out Gio that sounds like my higher end guitars. I got accustomed to the that neck that I can almost play any brand neck with ease....see if I'll do tung oil  if the wood is nice....or just put a thin coat of wood furniture paint..."Bumblebee yellow"...then a clear protective gloss coat to finish. I already colored my sons black Squire mini to red.....let me tell you this....can't believe how thick the paint is...painted it gloss red ....thin coat...then it made the guitar sound really nice....that standard thick paint dulls the guitar sound.

That's great. I stopped re-finishing guitars because I ended having too many projects in my plate. Just starting to re-fret a strat that I had for a while now. Finished the electronics and bridge instalation just to find out that there is a dead spot on the 20th fret. I'll try to work around it. If not than re-fret it is. Or maybe just get a new neck. Well see.

By the way, napansin ko yung avatar mo. Ganda. Parang katulad ng strat ko. Pero akin iba ang pickup, pick-guard, knobs, neck, body color, most likely body as well, probably head stock shape, and might as well say a different brand name logo. Other than that it looks kinda the same... in a very different kinda way, hehe.

Don't know about a concert. I do notice the difference between an alder body strat (bright) a heavy mahogany les paul (warmer) and a swamp-ash prs body (mid-rangy). Than again, that's just me. I'm no sound guru. The finish also has something to do with the sound.

By the way, $16 cover charge for each GWAPO participant. I take Master, VISA, AMEX, ATM with code # (minimum balance $1000 please), gold, silver, stocks, CARVIN TUBE AMPS, PRS SE guitar (prefferably recentlly purchased), hahaha!!!

Yehey!
Sapak ang kaldereta nila dun, man. Gugutom tuloy ako.

Minsan lang ako mapunta sa North side. $0.99 burger lang kaya ko, eh. No kaldereta, hahaha!!!

Wala, matinong bata. Gusto talagang pumasa the right way. So. I guess, balik BT nanaman.

Kung may madadala kayong mga BT in cd, .WAV or mp3., dalhin nyo.

I only have my head amp here with me. My cab is down in Long Beach. Check with sound arena about providing extra cab... they don't. I may just have to wire the speakers in their backliner combos. May not sound the best, but hey, too lazy to drive down south now. Anyways, I'll be playing mostly bass that jam so no biggie.

Sure, you can try my HEAD  anytime. Just kidding

I don't reaaly use all my pedals. Depending on the gig, I will use some chorus here, a little delay there, you know, just for flavoring. I mainly go straight to my amp. The pedals are just there for practice when I'm using some else's amp and I have no control over the channel switching.

By the way, I use mesa triple recti-fryer head. Used to be a Marshall 30th Anniversary 1/2 until the midi department started crapping out on me so I decided to change. Feel free to play with my "ORGAN, I mean equipments, hehe. I will do the same with yours.

Right now I have 6l6s, 12ax7s, and whatever rectifier tubes mesa provided. Stock mesa tubes. Haven't changed them yet. Maybe later I will change the powers with el34s. Maybe get some hotter pre-amp tubes as well.

I needed a heavy grinding flexible amp for bands that I'm playing with. Diezels and Bogners we're out of my reach so I opted with the Rectifier.

Bart okay ba directions? remember...take the 210 to 134 to 101 north then exit woodman avenue...turn right on Woodman...tapos left on Roscoe.....then after you see a simbahan on your left side.....before you hit the main intersection(van nuys/roscoe) you see Carls JR on your right ...in front of Carls JR. is Toto's Lechon...may entrance to a big parking lot....go inside there and you'll see DJ Bibingkahan.

just call my cell if you have problems.

Thanks for the great EB jam. That was great! Phil, I love your Vai Ibanez, mzn. Nice fast neck. Next time I need to plug in to your Carvin. Thanks Phil for lending me your Carvin cab.

Bart, I love your Fender strat and the double shot. Sounds great! I need to try out your Alley Cat next time.

Jo, when you join Philmusic, thanks for playing with us today.

What I loved most was the tawanan and lokohan. Mga kwela tong sila Phil and Bart.

Importante you had fun...plus you're just rusty dude....keep on playing and everything will come back (just riding a bicycle ekanga)
since may RG550 limited kana...magpractice ka na to be a shredder. Pero you shouldn't have traded in your US strat (sayang) for that.....you could have bought a cheap gio and mod it out , like mine.(just a friendly suggestion)

Stratman, Dude, I always like the way you look at things...ang galing talaga ng perspective moe :)
dude just review your scales and work on speed picking with a metronome (I don't hehehe). Then some sweeping....use your wrist when you speed pick....what else....don't mute your sweeps....use the neck pickup in sweeps para mas round sounding you notes.....don't overdo speed picking and sweeps...apply it in tasteful and moderate places in solos or songs......since pareho tayo ng taste...ala blues shredder....like Joe Satch.

...jazz.....yeah...I'm also trying to figure it out...especially those funny sounding scales nina Holdsworth and other progressive jazz players. I'm experimenting more on cleaner tone though for that type of music. Although I when I jam in a jazz groove...I am so melodic in the long run maging blues. hehehehehe. ...can't help it....melodic na melodic ako eh.

You know what helped me when I was trying to learn guitar was the book by Fredrick Noad. He had a local access channel show many years ago. It really helped me a lot. Mostly classical but will give you excercises that will work your bass runs and contrasting melodies. It also helped me understand how to read music sheet. Not that I'm a fast note reader or anything like that but it forced me to read because he doesn't use any tabs. All strictly straight, tradiotional music sheet. It will work your disciplene.

Aso... whatever Phil suggested to do, do them. They really work! I saw the fruit of his labor in action. It was like watching Satch and Vai morphed into one super guitarist :P , hehe. If Satch and Vai had a baby, it will be Phil,   !!!

Yup. Dirt pedal level will affect your overall volume. Amp is 10, pedal is 0= no sound.

so parateng naka 10 ang volume then...then adjust the drive and tone...hmmmmmm.... may overdrive pedal ba na volume and drive lang?....I feel like the Tone knob will color the sound of the guitar before it reaches the amp.

Phil... that's what I told you before... try a booster pedal. I used that Seymour booster before. $80 at Guitar Center new, I think. It gives you boost without colorization. In front of your amp dirt channel it will give you more gain (depending on the amount of db setting your using) without altering the tone. The only thing that I don't like about this pedal is that the gain starts at 6 db. What if you only need a little boost , say 3 dbs? Your stuck with 6 dbs. It does what it claims to do but I'd try checking out MXR MICRO AMP first.

I know what your going for and I think boost pedal is the way to go. Just have to look for the right one at the right price, hehe.

Yeah, 4-5 would be nice. This jam palit tayo.

So, 2nd and 4th Saturday para makasama si Bart, right? Ayos din yong elevated-audio, ano. Big space plus special $14 deal for this month only. Kunin natin! Last Saturday of this month? Sinong sasama?
