Creating a 'Magic' Battery to Downgrade / Unbrick any PSP.
This guide will show you how to create a 'Magic' battery that can be used to
un-brick a bricked PSP or downgrade ANY PSP Firmware version to 1.50.
To make a Magic Battery you will need:
* Windows operating system on your PC (Used to write the 'boot code' to the memory stick
* a PSP that can run homebrew programs (Any Custom Firmware or Sony Firmware 1.50 will work)
* a spare 64mb or higher Memory Stick PRO DUO (256mb or higher is recommended, must be PRO DUO)
* a spare battery (An official Sony battery is recommended as some other brand don't work)
This Guide Contains these sections:
* Required Files you need to Download to make a 'Magic Battery'
* Checking if your Memory Stick is Compatible
* Checking if your Battery is Compatible

Checking if your Memory Stick is Compatible:
Any memory stick Pro Duo will work as long as its 64mb or higher.
The 32mb Duo that some PSP systems come with will not work.
You should be able to buy a 128mb or 256mb memory stick for cheap
as not many people want to buy low capacity memory sticks anymore.
Checking if your Battery is Compatible:
The Official batteries (Battery Models 'PSP-110' and 'PSP-280') are known to work properly with the 'Pandora' Files.
Your PSP System should come with either a PSP-110 or PSP-280 battery.
Its best to use a spare battery as you will not be able to use the magic battery to start the PSP normally.

Converting your 'Memory Stick' into a 'Magic Memory Stick'
You will need to work with MS-DOS to prepare the memory stick so you will need to type a few commands into an MS-DOS Window.
You don't need any knowledge of MS-DOS or know what it is as this guide will tell you what you need to do.
Note:
You can't use CTRL-V to paste as it doesn't work in MS-DOS, you can paste by right clicking in the window and choosing 'Paste'.
You can copy by right clicking, choosing 'Mark', dragging the mouse over the part you want to copy and then Right click.
The commands you need to type in will be in a Red Bold Font.
example: CD Pandora.
Text that gets displayed in the window that is written by a program will be in a Blue Bold Font.
example: You are about to format the drive E.
All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y]

1. Download and extract the files, copy the 'Pandora' folder to your C:
(Open My Computer -> Local Disk (C -> and Paste the Pandora folder.)
2. Turn on your PSP and insert the memory stick you want change to a 'magic' memory stick.
3. Go to the Settings -> System Settings menu on your PSP
4. select the 'Format Memory Stick' option and press 'X', choose the 'Yes' option and press 'X'
5. Connect your PSP to your Computer using a USB cable and create a USB connection.
6. On your 'Windows XP' computer, click 'Start' then 'Run' (or hold the Windows Key and press 'R' on your keyboard)
7. In the 'Open' Box type in CMD and press Enter or click OK and a black MS-Dos window will appear.
8. Type in: CD \ and press Enter, this will take you to your C:\> Drive.
9. Now type in CD Pandora and press Enter, this will change the folder to C:\Pandora>
10. Open My Computer and find the drive letter of your PSP Memory stick.
There should be an Icon that says 'Removable Disk (E' or something similar.
You need to know letter in the brackets e.g: the (E means the letter I need is E
11. Switch back to the Black MS-DOS window and type: MSPFORMAT E and press Enter.
Replace E with the letter of the drive you found in step 10.
If your Drive letter is (I then you will need to type in: MSPFORMAT I
12. you should see something like this appear on the screen:
You are about to format the drive E.
All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y]

13. Press Y and then press the Enter Key
If you see something similar to this on your Screen then MSPformat worked:
Drive succesfully formatted, and partition moved.
If you get an error about not being able to read or write to the memory stick (this usually happens on Windows Vista)
Open 'My Computer' -> 'Right Click the Removable Disk and choose Format' -> 'Tick Quick Format' and then click 'OK'
To check if you have done everything correctly your MSDOS window should look a little bit like this:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>cd \
C:\>cd pandora
C:\pandora>mspformat E
You are about to format the drive E.
All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y]Y
Drive succesfully formatted, and partition moved.
C:\pandora>
14. you can now minimize the black MS-DOS Window (We will need to use it later)
15. Open My Computer -> Local Disk (C -> Pandora -> PSPSoftware folder.
16. Select the PSP folder and the UPDATE.PBP file and choose 'Edit -> Copy'
17. Open your Memory stick (Which should be empty) and choose 'Edit -> Paste)
Wait until the files have been copied to your memory stick.

23. Go back to the 'Settings' menu and make a USB Connection to your Computer.
24. Open the MS-DOS window you minimized in step 14.
If you accidently closed the window, follow steps 6, 7, 8 and 9.
You should see: C:\Pandora> on the screen.
25. Type in msinst E E:\msipl.bin and press Enter.
(If your memory stick drive letter is not E then replace E with the letter of your memory stick)
Example: if your memory stick Drive letter is I you would type in: msinst I I:\msipl.bin
26. You should see something very similar to this on your screen:
(This is what i see when I used my 256mb Lexar Memory Stick)
PSP MS IPL Installer
Load IPL code E:\msipl.bin

If your PSP doesn't turn on automatically then your battery is not compatible with the 'Pandora' Software.
You will need to follow the 'Restore a Magic Battery back to Normal' to go back to the original battery.
If your PSP turns itself on then your battery is now a 'Magic Battery' and you should see a recovery menu on your PSP Screen.
To turn off your PSP when in the recovery menu, hold the power button up for about 4 seconds.
Downgrade / Un-brick a PSP using the Magic Battery and Magic Memory Stick

Try to restore the battery again and if it doesn't work then your battery might be stuck as a magic battery.
