hi

16 simultaneous tracks is possible with addition of an 8-channel ADAT device such as Presonus DigiMax, Focusrite OctoPre

A. Pro Tools software way - the following interfaces will allow 16 simultaneous
- 002 rack

@fingertapper1 - you forgot software and O/S, as well as a good interface. M-Powered is already $250 and the Delta 1010 is $399 already. An RME FF800 costs $1499 while a Lynx Aurora 16 costs $2995.95 - excellent interfaces really cost you an arm and a leg. Aside from the auxiliaries like cables and mike stands, don't forget monitoring and mixdown equipment. Lastly, don't also forget sound treatment, the most under developed aspect of most studios.

In theory, you could. However, PT M-Powered is limited to 32 audio tracks with a paid upgrade to 48-track capability. You might think 48 tracks is enough, but once you go beyond a 4 mic drum setup and start double tracking instruments and vocals, you will easily eat up those 32/48 tracks.

I really don't know if adding a 2nd 1010 pci card will require an additional IRQ since the card is physically occupying another pci slot which is hardwired based on the IRQ allotment tables (clarification, abyss?). Add to the fact that the Delta series has problems with SATA drives depending on the chipset controller (from here). Researching on compatible systems beforehand will give you less headaches later on.
