share lang..

Ako i started with mga garapon ng ice cream with SM plastic bag na kinabit using rubber bands,
tapos hi hat is yung erasing shield, sa mga bosconian dyan malamang alam nyo yun :)
Tapos sabay sipa sa isang kahon, literally kahon - di yung percussion, as bass drum.

then later on nakapagpractice sa drumset ng father ng friend ko, although medyo nagagalit sa kin yung father nya hehe

ako i listened (not passively) to a lot of music.. really internalizing the songs, while just stomping to the floor and hitting some books with a ballpen on each hand. until i had a pair of sticks, then often sneaking into the church's drums set. and even borrowing the church's drum pedal so that i could practice the foot slide technique on the wall of my room.. hahaha
i found that it was good that i started out understanding songs. makes drumming and getting along with other instruments easier :-D

I started playing on a table with pillows and books.  :-D Then after how many months I got chance to play on a real drumset sa aming church until I am absorbed by the worship team playing every sunday. Then after 6 years I got my first drumkit.. I think that was a Sto. Nino brand drum with mediocre cymbals. hehe. That was a fun time playing and baning around my kit until I realized I just making noise. hehe. And thew time comes na nag drum lesson na talaga ako (formal lesson) with some good and respected drummers and drum teachers dito sa amin (Cebu). Luckily a learned quickly and dig devotedly on playing and practicing  :-) . Basta for me. . .If a had always given a chance to practice I'll always make use that precious time even I'm on vacation I always carry with me my drum sticks, Practice pad and metronome.

I started with chairs and pillows. My dad taught me and grounded me in fundamentals, like you, and I think that's a pretty good place to start. Over the years though, naging rusty na yung reading ko (oo na, guilty na ko ) but my rhythm, my counting, they're still there. One good thing my dad taught me about fills when I was starting is, you have to be able to sing a lick first before you can play it. Come up with your own combinations and sing them, but no matter what you come up with, make sure it fits the count pretty well.

Ang tagal kong nawala dito. It's so good to be back.  8-)

Ako naman i started way back when i was in grade 4 pinilit ko kasi yung parents ko na pagdrums lessons ako hehe I remember first gear ko din ay unan at sticks plus yung beginner book na binigay sakin.

first nakapanood ako sa mga gigs and video sa youtube ng mga magagaling at hataw na drummer! like Melvin of typecast, taylor of foofighters, kai of gazzete, jake of mayday parade..
then i thought na ang cool mag play ng drums kasi astig ung drumming "itself" and sound na nagagawa...
then i started teaching myself,, i learned drumming in a unprofessional way kaya ang dami ko pa di alam

and so adventure to the life of music and world of drumming began,.. its soooo exciting!!

Welcome... Astig yun Sir. mendics, you've been in the U.S.? Pangarap ko kaseng makapuntang U.S. at dun ako mag babasketball magdamag... Hehe, seriously.

Ang masasabe ko lang about practice, ayon sa kasabihan ni Kevin Durant : "It's not the hours you put in, it's what you put in the hours...". 8-)

hahaha! oo nga! tama to mga dre. khit gaano kpa ktgal nka upo sa drum set mo or gaano k ktgal pumalo pero wla nmn n iimprove saten balewala din.

at siyempre importante, sipag at tiyaga

optionals:  videos (minsan masmadaling matutuhan pag pinanunood kesa pinakikinggan)

wag umasa sa mata. like tab or notes. kme kse natugtog on the spot kaya nmen. or pede din may praktis, pero kadalasan on the spot kme natugtog. mejo nkaka ilang lng pag sa church ka natugtog tpos ang influence mo nsa lbas like vic mercado. hahaha! nahihiya akong mag synchopades ng fill. bka pagalitan! wahahahahaa

Same with here.....very dependent ako sa hearing ko.
When it comes to learning songs. I just put the song on my Ipod and listen to it like all day.
