the drum tuning bible has lots of discussion about this.. you may want to search the forum for drum tuning bible.

Specifically for snares, here's the link:

http://home.earthlink.net/~prof.sound/id3.html

As for a description of the adjectives used in there, you can refer to this:

http://home.earthlink.net/~prof.sound/id12.html

ps: to the moderators, incase po may thread for this topic kindly post the URL..thank you..

In general, wood snare drums produce a warmer sound, while metal snare drums produce a brighter sound.

That's the general idea.  But with today's technology and innovations, drum makers are coming up with different ideas, in terms of materials, manufacturing method, design innovations such as hybrid and vented shells and so forth.  Drumheads can even make a difference too.

Hence, some snare drums sound warm and bright (two contradicting characteristics) at the same time!  A good example is the DW Edge hybrid maple/brass snare drum (http://www.dwdrums.com/snares/snarecoll.htm).

Ayan ang sagot! Perfect for Razeljoey since you mentinoed you were planning to get a DW..there you go bro metal and wood fused into one snare!  :lol:

Pero I agree with DinDin..you do have a big budget so might as well get both  :-D

@sir akira ..
